DayDate or Datejust?
The more I read about the history of Rolex, the more I get fascinated by the whole brand.
Summer time is great time for dreaming. Without knowing history: First I felt that DayDate is a must have for me at some point. But after reading the history: I feel that maby Datejust could be the one to get for my collection? The fact that Datejust was the first one used by presidents, dr. King, Churchill etc. is interesting: https://www.xupes.com/magazine/artic...-rolex-watches What is your opinion: Would Datejust be the one for collector because of the history or is DayDate the King in every way? I tried YG DayDate once, but I didn’t feel that thrilled about it.. Here are some interesting options for the future: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Rose gold DD with green dial is simply stunning
As is the YG + green Daytona Datejusts is probably more me, thinking silver with fluted bezel super jubilee and a midnight silver sunburst or blue sunburst dial, just amazing. Wife has the Wimbledon dial two tone, again spot on. |

If you have the means the DD is the top choice, the gold President bracelet alone is different class.

I own both a DD II and a DJ II and while two very different watches they both are great. I am not a big TT fan but have owned them but my DD II is YG with the white dial and I really like it. The only down side is no adjustability to the bracelet other than adding or removing links. My DJ II has the easylink system and can be adjusted on the fly. Both are not inexpensive watches and I get a lot more comments on my DJ II with the Rhodium Diamond dial than my DD II but it may just be the diamonds. Unless money is not an object then I would be hard pressed to tie up the funds in a DD when the DJ does it. That from someone who has 14 watches and a lot of duplication in their collection. Find the two models and dial combinations you want and try them on together. You will know.

If you can afford the DayDate then that is the one to go for.

Your comparing somewhat of an entry level watch vs the pinnacle of Rolex. Totally different leagues.

If finance is of no concern, the DD - a classic watch with class.
And it wouldn’t matter to me what Churchill, KK, or anyone else wore. There is a significant difference in weight, and therefore the comfort of wearing the watch everyday... |

Thank You all for your input so far!
What about the history behind: DayDate or Datejust, which is more Rolex, if possible? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

DD + president and fluted DJ + jubilee are about the same "Rolex". However the former is the go to if funding is not at issue.

As William said, the adjustability of the president bracelet is definitely a factor, whereas the DJ has the easy link. I had to get the 1 1/4 link for my DD, but, once I did, the fit and feel of it has quickly become one of, if not my favorite, watch. I've attached a couple of pics to illustrate. And a photo of the DJ. Both fantastic watches! Good luck! |

As far as which is "more Rolex," I'd say they're equal. FWIW, I believe the DJ is still the most sold Rolex. |

Thanks for your thoughts! I have already one full gold watch (wg pepsi gmt), another pm later on would not be a problem. I feel the same as you said. At the moment I truly don’t know which one would it be. Time will tell.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The DJ always seems pedestrian to me, but that' just me. If you love then get it. I'd go with the DD everose.

Google some famous and historic DD owners which include Eisenhower, LBJ, Castro, Warren Buffett and Alec Baldwin as the "see this watch" guy in Glengarry Glenross.

i have a datejust but i'm getting a day date sometime in the next month or 2. i wish i could daily a day date but i just don't see it happening considering i'm in my 20s and work in a fairly casual IT office, feel like it would give bad vibes, otherwise i wouldn't need the dj

As a former DD40 owner, my choice is the DJ41. The lack of adjustability is a permanent non starter for me. Never again.
