Why did you buy a Rolex?
I am curious to hear stories about why you have your Rolex(s)?
I never would’ve imagined owning a Rolex even as soon as two years ago. It just wasn’t my thing. I fell into Rolex because wife asked if I wanted wear her deceased father's 34mm timepiece from the early 70s. I wore it and began to love it. I loved how it was passed on from within the family. I continued to realize how special the Rolex was, but decided it belonged on my wife’s wrist, not mine. It came from her father and she deserved to wear it. A year ago I purchased a DJ41 and I love it. I will never sell/trade my Rolex, that’s not why I purchased it. My watch will go to my son. I am 43 and as I get older I see the value to enjoying and eventually passing on jewelry and art to family. Along with photos, those are two things that can stay in families forever. I now have the itch to purchase a Sub date! I will alternate wearing my DJ41 and Sub. So in summary, I love Rolex because it is something special I can pass along to my family. |

To highlight life milestones, first a DJ36, then an Explorer and now I have a Daytona waiting on the safe for my 50th birthday in a few weeks.

First watches I ever heard of was the Rolex Submariner through the Bond films & Tag Heuer F1’s through drivers in F1 & McLaren.
Got deep into watches about 4 years ago & kept doing alright at work. Treated myself to the special edition McLaren F1 about 2 years ago and adored it. Then realised its Quartz and begun my journey on learning about mechanical watches! After buying an Oris BC Pro Pilot I fell in love with mechanical but slowly, I came to the conclusion there’s only 1 watch I want and if I got that, my dreams come true as it’s the watch I never thought I would own. In 2 months, fingers crossed, the Submariner Date is mine! In summary, a Rolex Sub was always the watch I wanted but I never thought I could own. It was my dream watch along with the F1. Soon, I’m about to own both! |

There's patek, vacherone..etc...i really don't know why Rolex really appeals to me. Maybe because it retains its value or its aesthetics..

Timeless design, built like tanks, I like the way they wear on the wrist. Great "value" in the sense that most models hold their value well, especially compared to other luxury watches. At the end of the day, I like the way they look and perform.

Not too many options to handle these pieces where I live; Rolex or Omega basically.

I want to buy something special for my achievement and something that will impress others but with minimum depreciation (in fact in my case it appreciated).

Started out with Invicta's,Doxa's,Omega's, Oris you get the picture. Then began looking at Rolex and it all sounded to good to be true except the price .. lol. So I purchased a SubC and have never looked back, just an awesome watch fit and finish and oh boy the Glidelock done deal!

Because I wanted a truly reliable mechanical watch that is durable during my active lifestyle. One that is a true sports watch, not sporty jewelry, and a watch that doesn't take 6 months for a regular service.
Rolex FTW

I've always liked watches but found Rolex a bit "look at me I got money". That was before i started reading about the brand and discovered this forum. Now i really appreciate it and enjoy the great design and quality.

could be wrong here but many seem to buy one for a sense of material prestige.

I’ve been through nine Rolex watches so far (traded when I got bored with them), with number 10 and 11 coming soon. Now I’ve been limiting myself to three at any given time. Why did I buy Rolex watches? My wife bought all of my watches and she sums it up like this: “Because you’re worth it”!! And NO Rolex watches are not investments, they are tools/toys - watches.

I'm addicted to watches. Rolex makes watches that speak to me historically, to quality to aesthetics.

I bought my first one, a Bluesy, 20 years ago as a gift to myself. My company gave everyone a nice profit sharing check.
