Cold remedy’s

Having gone about 15 years virtually cold free - 18 months ago started a new contract in a brand new/ all glass/ Air conditioned office & getting a cold now every other month. One person gets it - within a week round the whole office. Tried hand sanitizers etc but I reckon it’s sick building syndrome

Anyway got it again. In Scotland we make usually just before bed ‘a hot toddy’. Double whiskey, slice of lemon, table spoon of honey & hot water is my variation. Hopefully feel a bit better in morning. Tastes horrible till 1/2 way down the glass then changes to taste pretty good - probably when hit the whiskey

Any other ‘cures’ from around the world ???

Tequila. Does not fix it; but you forget about it.

While it doesn’t make the cold go away, a piping-hot bowl of chicken noodle soup makes me feel better. A lot of fluids and rest helps too.

Hope you get well soon!

The old adage about colds: If you take your medicine, drink plenty of fluids, stay warm, and get lots of rest, a cold should last no more than 14 days

Otherwise it'll be two weeks

Lots of tea and sleep, I usually shake a cold in 3-4 days.

Good choice of malt. I tend to opt for the hot toddies without the hot... take hourly as required.

try to avoid environments with recirculating air (like airplanes, AC buildings etc.).

easier said than done in today's modern world.

as for preventative measures, I try to get my vitamin C daily...via fresh citrus fruit or unsweetened orange/grapefruit juice.

the bugs are usually airborne or passed along through handling (doorknobs, public contact sites etc.) always best to wash your hands...prior to eating or rubbing eyes, touching mouth/nose et al).

stay healthy.

Airborne droplet cross-infection may be the culprit.
Clean surfaces and hands is partially effective.
One of the mask options may be your only defense.

Avoid AC like the plague - over dry air does increase the chance of catching various bugs etc.

Otherwise the best prevention I find is maintaining a strong immune system where possible - good diet, exercise, avoid negative stress, all that stuff. Of course easier said than done.

Drink til you forget. Also, in Romania, we have this thing called "tuica" - same application, similar results. 40-60% alcohol, homemade, it has never failed me. Kills the germs fast and effectively

1. Garlic

2. Bone broth soup to boost immunity. Take bone broth and boil and add shitake mushrooms, Celtics sea salt, 1 egg, green onions, white pepper, sesame oil.

I used to get sick once a year in the office environment. Then I had two kids in daycare. I was sick for almost 9 months straight. Since then I don’t seem to get sick anymore.....
