Trip to Vegas and Santa Monica

Thought I’d post this here, since I know a few TRF members are Vegas-based.

I’m in Vegas on busines at the end of the month for three nights. Apart from all of the watch shops, is there anything I absolutely need to see/do? I’m not really into gambling, and I will have two full days and three evenings to spare. I’m staying in the Palazzo. Never been to Vegas before and will be in town on my own.

I’m then staying in Santa Monica for a few nights for another meeting, before flying back to the UK. Again, aside from visiting the local watch shops, any other recommendations? Again, never been before and will be in town on my own.

I’ll probably be stuffing my face in Capital Grille at least two nights, but always open to suggestions for restaurants, especially those that cater for dinner for one!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and ideas...

It will be hot there. Stay in the hotels would be my suggestion. Lots of great restaurants in Vegas.

A show is in place! Cirque Du Soleil 'O' at Bellagio and any concert. Food wise...heaven!!!!!

Advice: log into www.vegas.com; add check in and check out dates and the site will show ALL events happening during those days.

I would second the recommendation for ‘O’. Walk through ceaseless palace and bellagio gardens. Have dinner at Mom ami at Paris,... looking at the bellagio water fountains. Do a Vegas buffet...any of them.

Man, I haven't been to a Vegas buffet in probably 20 years. With so many great restaurants there I'm not sure I ever will either.

Few ideas from the many times i've been:

Helicopter tour of the strip.

Rent a car (or another helicopter ride) and drive to the grand canyon and hoover dam. It's about a 2.5-3 hour drive to the Skywalk at the Grand Canyon so can easily do it in a day.

Go up the high roller (similar to London eye; but has an all-you-can drink bar in there). There's a fairly newish strip of bars / restaurants leading up to it, which always seems lively.

Go up to the top of stratosphere.

Watch a show, cirque ones are very popular; but i also recommend la reve at the wynn.

and of course, visit the watch shops; personal favourites are the ones at bellagio, ceasars forum mall, and the Wynn which has a small rolex museum in there.

If you do, do the Caesars Palace buffet (Bacchanal) but don't do the Circus Circus buffet.

I don’t disagree but buffets are so vegas. :)

The only restaurant I want to try is Bizaar meats by Jose Andres. I was suppose to go there last week for work but it was bait and switch to go to Eiffel Tower restaurant...meh

Thanks for the recommendations! Noting and researching these now, including shows.

La Reve and O are excellent. So is Love.

Vegas has amazing restaurants - SW at Wynn has always been a favourite of mine. Hells Kitchen at Caesar’s (fairly new) has an amazing atmosphere and is a definite on my return.

Cocktail bar at Mandalin oriental has stunning views over the strip.
