Wow did not see that coming.

Looks like a tame fella, didn’t even know about pet ducks, pretty cute!

I'm guessing there won't be too many other pics, despite the cuteness overload.

My wife and I own a 23 acre property that is mostly old growth forest, but we have a roughly 4 acre pond that we stock with flightless ducks (mostly a species called "runner ducks". Runner ducks are not particularly well suited for raising families since they tend to drop eggs anywhere, including IN the water. From time to time, we go pick up the eggs and put them in an incubator. This little guy is the result of our latest hatch; out of 11 or so eggs, he/she was the only one to hatch.

Since runner ducks are social creatures, it would be somewhat unkind to let this baby duck stay isolated (it is too young to be put on the pond) so I hold it in the morning and let it hang out with me while I work on my research. I'll upload a picture in a minute of my office arrangement with this little guy.

Joe

Learn something new everyday!

Love this forum. Very cute duck indeed ! Would LOVE to see a pic of the pond.

Growing up we had a few ducks around the farm but man were they vicious. I guess that's the image I had of ducks but this one looks awesome.

I love ducks. I have a soft spot for most cute and cuddly animals, but ducks are probably favorites. Geese, on the other hand.... geese are A******s.

When you say runner Ducks... do they end up brown, really slim and upright? My parents used to have some but think they were called Indian Runners?
