Argh. Have a soft spot for these. Nice examples are getting very expensive.

Congratulations!

I doubt that I'll ever get one, but here's what cars looked like the year I was born.

https://www.google.com/search?client....0.MPbQYFnIdrk

They were rolling death traps, occupants were unrestrained and unprotected against hard interior surfaces, air-conditioning was unheard of for most people, and even radios were a pricey option.

I remember riding with my family behind another car down dusty, washboard, dirt roads on hot, summer days with the windows rolled up and everyone sweating and suffocating in the heat.

Ah, those were the days!

These are great! I had one as a company loaner car when I was the Fuel Truck driver for a helicopter company fighting the forest fires. Had a chance to buy but bought a 68 mustang instead. It was a laugh to drive, such character. I only drove it a handful of times but loved it. Cool cars leave such great impressions. More than metal...

That is so clean!!!! I love your enthusiasm!!! That is all that counts, the smile on your face when you drive it or more importantly look back at it when you park it. It might not be for everyone but that is not the point. Drive it, work on it, mod it. Make it yours.

I need another toy.....

Congratulations! That’s a real minter.
I’ve only seen no more than 5 on them in the last ten years on UK roads.
It’s so rare now and keeping it in its original form is definitely the right thing to do.

Best part about this car, it was owned by one woman for the last 30 years. She bought it as a drunken impulse after a night out with friends. She was waiting for her bus and saw a Toyota dealership having their Midnight Madness sale. She wandered on the lot and left in this bad boy. The only reason she sold it was the clutch became too stressful on her knee!

Step one purchases will be a refresh/update of steering, suspension and braking components:

My dream older car would be either a final gen RX-7, or an ITR. Both cars I lusted after in college.

ME-2 looks really nice. I like the next gen one a bit more, i’m Sure you will have a ton of fun with yours.

The more I look at your MR-2 the better it looks. It really is immaculate.
I have always found that price has little to do with how much enjoyment you can get from something. The cheapest car I ever owned (a 1976 Toyota Celica) was probably my favourite - simple, no electronics, well made, easy to work on, fun to drive.

It’s one of those cars you can’t help but turn around once or twice for every time you walk away from it.
