Contemplating selling my Submariner for a Sub Date....change my mind
As the title says. Thinking of letting my 114060 go for a 116610LN.

I love the looks of the no date Subs but I prefer the date. I've got a Speedmaster with no date and a couple other watches but I wear them less because the date function is important to me.

Contemplating selling my Submariner for a Sub Date....change my mind
I wouldn’t. But that’s me.
The classic Submariner just has a special place in my heart - and my collection. I’ve always loved and admired the symmetry - and ‘clean’ look of the dial. If I only had one watch - that’s what it would be - or some variant thereof. The 114060 - is my favorite modern Rolex reference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nobody here can change your mind, only you.
Do you need the date function? Go for it! It’s great and I love it. The cyclops is very “Rolex” and I wouldn’t know what date it is without it. Do you like the dial symmetry of the no date? Then keep it! The cyclops and date kind of throws that symmetry off and adds some clutter to the face Are you indifferent? Might have to take a loss to get the new watch? Is it worth the trouble and the loss to have the date? I think you should keep what you have, the no date is beautiful. You’ll love the date but you’ll miss the no date. “The grass is always greener”...! My suggestion is keep the no date sub and maybe get another watch with a date :) polar explorer 2? Hulk? |

Get what you want. No date is a cleaner look but lacks utility. I personally like a date complication. With or without cyclops.

I used to be the type that had to have a date on a watch. Now I’m the opposite and don’t like it since I almost always have my cell phone. I wonder how much you wil need to pay to get a date?

Save and get a 16610...plus you can get it sooner.

I do love it, but I always feel myself looking for the date even though it’s on my phone and computer at work.

I wouldn't sell the Submariner for a Sub Date. The regular old Submariner is perfect IMHO. Instead, if I were you I'd just save up and add a BLNR or maybe a SD43.

Same here. I’ve had both. I found that I was always cleaning “around” the cyclops and it actually obstructed the view of the date from an angle. Just prefer the clean crystal if I have an option. |

I would if I were you. Not too long ago I was in a similar boat, had a 114060 and enjoyed the look of the simple dial. Over about 6 months I got bored with it and more importantly found myself looking for the date. I ended up getting rid of the 114060 and got an SD43.

I’ve heard this a few times regarding the cleaning around the cyclops. Maybe the cyclops on my watch is unique but I never seem to have gunk or dust collect around it really, never to the point where I looked at it and thought...I need to clean it. |

Keep your Sub and add the Sub Date. I did that and I love this pair.

If you are thinking about upgrading to the Sub Date I'm afraid it's too late. I flipped my ND Sub for a Sub Date and my only regret is not getting it from the beginning.
The ND is a very nice watch. I bought it for the same reasons people are stating now, "it has a clean symmetrical dial", "I don't need date on my watch", "It's not as common as a Sub Date in the wild", etc. Well, I actually found the clean symmetrical dial a bit boring without the cyclops, I DO use the date function a lot, and a lot of people own it for a good reason, it's the best all arounder SS sports model you can buy from Rolex. The cyclops just transforms the watch. It fills up the boring empty dial & makes the watch stand out from all the other black diver Sub homages. If you find yourself checking for the date a lot like I was doing, it's definitely worth the upgrade. I was never able to bond with my ND and kept debating selling it for something. Well, that feeling never came back after I upgraded to the Sub Date. I hope you pull the trigger, you won't regret it!

I'd rather get a 116600 and have the best of both worlds.

I Did it. You won’t regret it. Felt real cool to buy the “true sub” with ND. I used to tell my self that until I just realized I wanted the date version and made the switch. Couldn’t be happier. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

both are awesome, but I've come to really use the date complication a lot, and the cyclops has really grown on me.
If you need to look up the date a lot, I say go for it, but if not keep it no date |

A couple of months ago I was at an AD with my wife, having decided to get a DJ 36. But then both the Sub NB and Date caught my attention and, since it was around the time those pieces were getting more and more difficult to obtain, I tried them both on my wrist thinking I should get one of these now instead of much later after the DJ as I had planned. The DJ could wait since it was more easily available.
My wife, though not a big fan of watches, gave the typical ND-fan spiel and commented on the beautiful symmetry of the ND’s dial, how clean it looked and how it wasn’t as ubiquitous as the Sub Date. So I bought the Sub Date. And I’ll tell you why. For me, it’s function over form (not that the 116610LN lacks the latter). I know this now because having owned watches that at first looked great but had inevitably become safe queens real quick, I would lose the initial attraction I had with the ND and the functionality of the date would undoubtedly take over. I also like the cyclops as a quintessential Rolex feature. That said, I wear my Speedy Pro often and I get around the lack of date window by using the chronograph’s second hand as date tracker. I like the interaction with the watch that way in addition to winding it in the morning whenever I decide to wear it. I’m saying this because with the ND, you could also use the bezel to track the date if you’re so inclined, and if it’s only this functionality that you’re after and you don’t mind the extra effort, then you should probably consider keeping it. But, maybe it’s been said before, the mere fact that you’re asking the question means you’re at least halfway through the upgrade. Good luck. |

I always thought I needed a date, but have been daily wearing a Speedy pro for over a year and no longer miss it. I sign a lot of forms, but I find that I'm starting to get better at remembering the date each day, and my phone is always handy. Love the symmetry of no date watches. I also love the look of the standard sub, as the date version with it's magnifier is a bit too ubiquitous for me.
