Men everywhere are wearing broken watches, according to The Wall Street Journal.

We spoke with Hamilton Powell, CEO of online luxury-watch market Crown & Caliber , to find out why.

Powell said that although aesthetics play a big part, traditional watches are one of the few simple luxuries left in life and offer a rare distraction from the modern world.

I saw this and thought of a cousin I have that never sets his sub.. Not just the date, but the time as well. I see him about once a year, and it just drives me nuts.

If it gets people into wearing a watch at all, then we all benefit. Unfortunately in this day and age, most people see no point in wearing a watch at all.

+1 . So true...95% of my friends do not care about watch...but some do wear
their fitness gadget instead. Their watch is the iphone....that's something they can't live without...

When our time comes, I don't think the next generation cares about Rolex. :)

i can't wear my 5712 until the moon phase is correctly set, wearing a broken watch around that gives me anxiety just thinking about it.

So glad someone else posted this. I NEVER look at my phone for the time anymore. The lack of 100% accuracy is a benefit. It reminds me that I’m not doing pediatric cardiology. Be early for appointments and allow yourself to run long when the occasion requires it.

x2. I see more folks with bare wrists now. Watches are becoming a thing of the past. We are the exception not the rule.

At our office Christmas party last year, I was talking to a couple of guys with nice watches and both said that they don’t even set the time and wear it just as an accessory. They were totally honest about it and seemed to think that it was no big deal. I thought it was really strange, but I guess not...

One of my best friends used to do this.

He received a submariner as a wedding gift and he would just throw it on as an accessory.

Eventually I shamed him so much that he started setting the time.
