From three down to one and the decision....

A couple years ago after first owning a TAG, later a couple Breitlings and eventually an Omega Seamaster, I was bitten by the Rolex bug with the introduction of the new Air King. I decided then I may just have to own one in the future, I really liked the style of the watch.

So fast forward a couple years and finally it was time to make a purchase, I wanted my first Rolex and I wanted it now. I decided I wanted a stainless steel watch and something I could dress up or down. I began looking a couple weeks ago and reading reviews, I honestly read too many reviews and started to get cold on the Air King as it seemed a lot of purists didn't think much of the watch. I began to question my own taste and started to look towards the Explorer and recent Baselworld 2018 Black Oyster Perpetual, both 39mm case size and similar in looks.

I am fortunate enough to live near DAVID SW, trusted seller here on the forums and he had both in stock. I made an appointment to visit and I was 90% sure I would come home with the Oyster Perpetual. Last night it occurred to me that I should at least give the Air King a look before laying down cold hard cash. I was pleased that he had one of these in stock as well. I was up last night kind of starting to stress over the decision and then I just decided that when I got to David's store the right watch for me would just speak to me and that would be the one I would purchase. No one wants to make a 5 or 6k mistake so I wanted to be pleased.

Well upon arrival this morning I kinda had a feeling the Explorer may be the dark horse, I liked the history and the extra bling of the face as compared to the OP.

Surprise, surprise, when David laid out the three watches, and I put each on the wrist the decision became very easy. The Air King was everything I had been looking for. It had the right size, fit, feel and the little bit of bling I wanted as well. I felt more comfortable with the 40mm and I liked the additional heft the Milgauss case provides. It was just in a word EVERYTHING as my kids say.

All the fears I had about the face appearing too busy or cartoonish were quickly put to rest once you see the watch in person. It actually flows very well and each feature of the face complements the next.

It wasn't nearly as hard to decide as I thought, just as I hoped one of the watches spoke to me and is now on my wrist as I type this. I can't stress enough the importance of seeing the watches in person and throwing them on the wrist. If I would have picked before doing this I would have ended up with a different watch.

I truly want to thank David, he is a gentleman and I feel lucky to be within driving distance of his beautiful store. It was a great experience to purchase from him!

Congratulations on the Air King. It looks great! I'm glad I don't live anywhere near David; I'd spend way too much money.

Congratulations. It's good you bought the watch that spoke to you in person, as looking at them in pictures and seeing them in person and on your wrist are two very different things.

That was the big lesson learned in this whole thing. I notified upper management (wife) that I would like come home with the Oyster Perpetual, I was 90% sure. It was a great surprise that the Air King was the watch that spoke to me and how different it looks on the wrist as compared to in pics.

Very nice air king. always liked it. When buying anything never go on the net and look up reviews! It will always make you indecisive. My take anyway.
