I don't think the name on it matters. When I bought my most recent Rolex from an AD about a year ago, the saleslady slid the card over to me with a pen. I asked what to write and she said I could write whatever I wanted.

I bought BNIB from a grey reseller, the warranty card had no name on it, only the date of purchase from the actual AD.

Same here, the date was checked two months prior to my purchase so that is the only thing of significance.

I always assumed the name on the card was only useful to have your children and grand children feel good as they are going through your estate. “Hey this is the watch dad bought in 2017! Here is the card with his name on it!!”

The BMW you buy has 4yr/50k miles warranty on it regardless of who owns it. The warranty has nothing to do with initial owners name. Similar situation with your Rolex warranty. The name on the card is only a feel good thing if you ask me. I can see Rolex asking and enforcing a requirement that ADs wrote the name before the card leaves the store, to reduce the attraction of buying a piece from grey market, but I can’t imagine they want to maintain an owner name database of sorts. (not all names in the world are Mike, Tom and Joe. Just the possibility of typos by the sales people and/or multiple ways of writing an Arabic or African or even an English name would creat extra headaches that they don’t need to deal with.

Same here. A couple of my watches that I bought from AD have my own handwriting on the card as I was handed the blank card to write my name or my wife’s name. Two other scenarios in the past, the salesperson wrote it down.

When I picked up my Pepsi a couple of weeks ago my AD left the card blank... so who knows... hit or miss maybe, but probably rare.
The warranty still kicks in from the purchase date.

From what I understand, if the Rolex watch is covered by warranty based on the initial sale from the AD recorded on the card, the RSC will service the watch under its warranty.

I bought a used Explorer II a couple of years ago that was still within its 2 year warranty period from when the previous owner bought it from the Rolex AD. A few months later, the watch was running fast. A local Rolex AD sent it to the RSC for me and it was serviced with no cost to me. Even came back with one of those nice dark green velvet pouches.

So, the watch carries its warranty, not the owner or whoever's name is on the card.
