Collection Rationalisation!
The last 18 months have been crazy and things have gotten out of hand! My current collection is as follows:
Rolex Daytona 116519 Rolex Daytona 116500 Rolex Sea Dweller 116600 Rolex GMT BLRO Rolex GMT BLNR Omega Speedmaster Reduced AP Royal Oak 15450 Blue Dial AP Royal Oak Diver TAG Microtimer JLC Reverso IWC Portofino There is also a Silver dial AP Royal Oak 15450 but the wife has stolen that so no longer part of MY collection! There are three reasons for the rationalisation: 1. There is a Patek 5990 on order 2. There is only so much wrist time available 3. Some watches never get worn anymore Reason '3' is the most interesting to me. I really craved the AP's and when I first got them, I really felt it was a step up from Rolex, but as time has gone on, as much as I love the design of the AP's, I find myself wearing Rolex all the time! I had to go through the AP ownership process, but it turns out that Rolex suits me and my lifestyle better than AP. Another surprise for me has been the Sea Dweller which I came close to flipping a couple of times, but it's grown and grown on me and it would now be the last to go. The WG Daytona on O/F was an impulse purchase and this rarely ends well! However, since having it, I've worn the SS Daytona only twice, and that was because I felt I should! The final surprise is the BLRO. I ordered it without really being sold on it based on the Basel pictures, I had warned my AD that I may turn it down when I saw it in the flesh, but it has amazed me and it gets more wrist time than any other in my collection. Whereas, the BLNR never gets worn. I have a watch winder that holds three watches, and I can wear one watch at a time...so I'm going down to four watches! Well, four plus the Microtimer (sentimental reasons) and the Speedy (for rare occasions where it's unsafe to wear an expensive watch). Everyone will have a view on which to keep, but after long consideration, I've made my decision!! The first spot is taken by the Sea Dweller, simply wouldn't be without it. The second spot has surprised me, but the White Gold Daytona beats the SS Daytona! The third is also a surprise, but the BLRO has blown me away and is staying! The final spot is reserved for the 5990. So...no place for AP, JLC, or IWC in my collection, Rolex wins! The sale will start in September! If you've read all of this, well done! I have only posted it to make sure I do actually go through with this!! And for anyone wondering weather the Patek will suit my lifestyle etc. if AP doesn't, the 5990 is my grail and will be my work watch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You seem to have come to a logical conclusion but I would be tempted to also keep the AP blue.

I like the reductions, offers all you need and really getting some of the best Rolex has to offer.
Also looking forward to the 5990 incoming. |

I can understand why the WG OF Daytona has waded into the watch box! A colleague of mine waltzed into work this week on his day off, and was wearing one! It took me just a second of having it on my wrist to know that this mix of OF bracelet and PM case is an absolute marvel, the weight balance to me was spot on. It’s dial is stunning.
Sea-dweller? It’s a tank, outlive you me and then some. The old adage, everyone needs a diver Enjoy the moment your grail arrives Vince! I’ve seen the 5990 up close once, won’t get that image out of my head for a long time coming!

You have chosen the exact same 4 I would have. All are cracking watches though but you have obviously given this some thought! Hopefully the wait for the 5990 wont be too long!! Congrats in advance!!

Wondeful collection!, I'm a Rolex man too. PP and AP are wonderful and even better horology pieces but I feel nacked without a Rolex.

Personally I'd keep one AP, over the SD if you only want 4, but I'd have one each of my Holy Trinity.

I'm with you on the AP thing. I bought my RO Chrono about 6 months ago and after the initial honeymoon period, it didnt really get a look in. Much prefer wearing Rolex and they feel a lot less 'fragile'
I'd like to get a BLRO next, they seem to be getting rave reviews from everyone who owns one so far |

Are you sure you want to rationalize the collection? All those incomings must have been for a reason.
That said all the reasons are fair... |

First - there is no way to truly rationalize this hobby. Second — when pieces don’t get worn, you get bored with or are redundant — time to consolidate.
I’ve learned A LOT about this hobby over many years - and for me less is more - quality vs. quantity. Find your ideal ‘number’ and go from there. Or you can always go big and consolidate ALL of them for a Richard Mille. For me - the only watches I truly never tire of are the 15202, 5711 and 114060. If they aren’t being worn, sell em!!! I think you picked the exact same three I would’ve kept as well!

Consolidation is overrated.......When I want to go "shopping", I go find a piece I haven't worn in a while. Its quite consoling.

Good plan but don't be surprised if after the sale and the acquisition of the 5990 you find yourself looking for a new addition. Always seems to happen.

Sounds like me. I’ve been far too trigger happy this year. Rolex back in front of the pack for me as well.

I had a sizable collection once, 7 Rolex's and then decided it was silly (and not who I was) and sold them all and bought a Omega. You have a more intimate relationship with one watch that is worn daily IMHO
