How smooth on second hand movement?

Guys, how smooth is to be considered smooth on the submariner second hand movement? I notice that my movement although maintains correct timing, does seem a little jerky. Not ultra smooth. Does anyone have a video of second hand movement?

I was wondering the same thing with my SD. Seeing as it has the same movement, the posts here confirm this.

I guess the only way to get a ultra smooth movement would be to get a battery powered watch.

No....

A Rolex is not "absolutely smooth".

Hello Tools/Larry,

I counted 9 "ticks" in between the second markers. Strangly, that is always something that I have wondered about. Thanks for the photo.

Awesome photo...There ARE 9 tick marks of the second hand, but only 8 gaps between the markers, so it does correctly show the 8 movements for each second...Interesting stuff.

depends on the Sub you have, the older Subs have a slower beat in the 15XX Cal mevements and the second hand moves noticably slower...but all of the Sub Dates from the early 80's on has a high beat movement.

28800vph, so 8 per second, high beat is 36000 or 10 per second, i would add that it doesn't mean that a 28800 will not be as smooth as a 36000, it depends how it's set.

Many quartz (i.e. battery powered) watches tick once per second, also there are "auto quartz" hybrid movements (Fortis Spacematic comes to mind) that appear to run like a regular auto.

For a truly smooth glide around the dial, take a look at the Seiko 'Spring Drive'

Cheers
