Sorry to hear that. On the positive side, sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

My grandfather fell and had similar injury/operation two years ago when he was 89. He is widowed and lives alone. After surgery he begrudgingly went to an inpatient rehab center for about 4 months. After a week of initially despising it, he ended up having fun and was sad to leave and now is overall better condition than before the fall.

My family got lucky with his outcome and hoping a similar one for yours :)

Thank You again everyone, she is out of surgery and doing well. It only took about 30 minutes and was not a very serious procedure. Docs say there shouldn’t be too much pain and they will have her walking on a walker this evening! Now just a quick recovery and she can get on with the rest of her life.

I never thought I would say this:

If I had a son, my highest wish would have been that it was Paul. Then I have someone to pick on and someone that take care of me at the same time.

Best wishes to your mom!! Hope she recovers quickly.
In my experience, things heal quicker and more properly with a surgery.

Hi Paul sorry to hear that.

My father broke this hip 15years a go or so. Recovery process was difficult I want to say it was 6months one of those frames, then after that he could just walk but was in a ton of pain.

He still is in pain today with certain motions such as getting in and out of a car. Things which will help are comfy bed and physiotherapy.

Glad to hear the surgery went well. Make damn sure she stays up and walks as much as the doctors will let her. Then be a Nazi on her as she starts PT. Make sure she gets someone who can work on her overall agility and gait in addition to range of motion. Too many elderly are let go without improving the functional deficits that led them to fall and break their hips in the first place.

I don’t think there are any good universal answers here for this one. For some it’s the start of a serious downward spiral, others shine in rehab and do well. If she bounced back well from cardiac surgery that’s a good sign she has better odds to do well with this one, provided she’s serious about keeping active and rehab. It’s also a good sign that she just needed a pinning.
Good luck.

Happy to read things are going well.
She's certainly had her share lately.
