Perfectionism
Does anyone else have a problem with this? It’s probably OCD related but drives me mad.
Finding imperfections in everything and then obsessing over it. Can be either bodily or physical items. I obsess over detail, like watches for instance, I will analyse until the watch is ruined because something is not quite symmetrical or slightly misaligned and then end up disliking it, not wanting to look at it. Can be with clothing, cars etc.... Anyone else suffer this? Any advice? It ruins almost every purchase I make for instance because I find fault and then worry about future failure etc Not sure if I’ve made sense..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I do not have this issue.
I’m more willy nilly than anything else. I actually prefer imperfections with the one exception of my cars paint job. I’m good with everything else.

I do not have it to that extreme and get over it pretty quickly.
Used to be worse about everything being perfect until I had kids. Made me realize that I am not the one in control of this ride around the sun. And that things are going to happen and we just have to roll with it. I do still get upset when the wife or kids do/don’t do something that causes problems down the road or puts me in a bad position. It has become easier over time to relax but still struggle sometimes but it is generally with specific things and with my wife allowing my kids to do certain things. But with other ocd type things I don’t care at all. Like timing watches. I care less if my watch is 3 seconds or 3 minutes a day off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Have you thought about seeking counseling from a doctor (specialist) to help you with this issue? Not sure you will find meaningful help here on the forum, except for sympathy. While many strive for perfection which is not necessarily bad, achieving it is a whole other story.

Ha! I was like this with cars then realized buying used cars made me chill out a bit. If the car came with some blemishes, it didn't bother me as much when I got a few more. I mean, I still get oissed that people can be so inconsiderate as to bash their door into my car but I get over it pretty quick.

I guess the age old adage of changing what you can, and accepting what you cant change.

One of my friends purposefully puts a small ding somewhere on his new car as soon as he drives it off the lot. Seriously. He says otherwise his OCD brain stresses over it unmercifully. Now he feels it already has the first one and he no longer has to worry about parking at the far end of the lot.

I am obsessive with a lower case "o" -- personalities vary from person to person, and I'm okay with it. If you think you may be Obsessive with a capital O, then it may be time to seek professional help. and best of luck

So have you found anything perfect enough for you?
I'd say its subtle imperfections that make life interesting Maybe just not in watches Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk |

Yes, but not to the extent when I was younger. While I still notice things I do not grind on them like I used to. I seem to be able to let things go easier, but I still like things in certain "order". The difference being I am not so consumed by it. For example, closet has a certain pattern of design, sock drawer, car being clean, things like that. I wish I could provide some input on how things changed but I think it is just aging. Not like a read a book and found a cure....
