what's the difference between panerai and the ferrari watch that was made by panerai?

(TR this is your fault you influenced me with all you panerai talks!)

What's the difference, well it's really only the branding and the removal or the crown guard. The ferrari watches do have a more sporty look due to the nature of the company, and they're very poor sellers as well.

A lot of people bemoan them, but i think in 20 years time they'll be the watches selling at a premium, it's always the poor sellers that come back in the next generation.

The more I look at the Ferrari PAMS ....... the more it seems like they are a combination of Panerai and Anonimo timepieces. Or it could just be that my eyes are fooling me !!

I actually like the line. I am patiently awaiting my FER 024. It may be worth a lot in the future but I would never sell so means little.

What is the scoop on Anonimo. I called a grey dealer that I bought from several years ago. They indicated that their PAM stock is low but, I should consider Anonimo instead because it is a better build watch. Probably had nothing to do with the fact that they make more on Anonimo now could it?

I have seen Anonimo (A friend of mine has one) and I see it in the Watch Magazines. I am just not impressed by them. Anybody else choose Anonimo over PAM?

Anonimo are a company made up of the old Panerai workers who left when Richemont took over, to be honest i think they're nice watches, but i don't think they'll really get anywhere near Panerai, they've been on the go for a few years now and their watches, although well made and well priced don't hold their value, so if you buy new you'll take a bit of a hit if you sell it.

From the point of the watch, it's well made, has the same style movement and are all pretty striking to look at.

Thanks for the info Ryan... That is very helpfull. I am too deep into Rolex, PAM, Omega and eventually want a PP or Lange. You have to make the cut somewhere... and for me... I just don't see Anonimo making that cut... It is good to respect that brand though espeically if it has good looks and good quality

You can pick them up in the secondhand market at around half price, for that money they are a great watch, who knows, they might get a bit of a following in the near future, all i know is that for the price of a secondhand one you get a pretty sweet watch.

Jackson,

In addition to what Ryan has informed ........ Anonimo focuses on the cases of the watch. They pride themselves on being expert case makers and the movements are altered by Dubois-Depraz to their specs. There is a pretty big article on Anonimo in Dec. 08 issue of International Watch magazine.

Nice. Thanks Mike - I will check that issue out! Do you own an Anonimo? Would you get one?

Jackson,

Anonimo's are rather pricey to be considered a spin-off of Panerai. I would consider getting one if the prices were lower. They start from $2500 - $10,500. The entry models are rather plain looking. The models I like are around $5000 - $7000 and for that kind of money I like many other brands in that range.

Anonimo for USD 2,500-10,500.- is too much...

I looked at the ferrari watches today there is now an AD in Calgary that carries them (but not PAM's), They looks real nice.

I like the FER00009 (GMT 45mm), it is a real nice watch.

Wait till some movie superstars in Hollywood wear Anonimo on their wrist and price will rocket up like Pam.

I think the Ferrari watch move was a BIG mistake for Panny. I'm glad demand sucks and I hope they go away quickly and don't come back.

They aren't going anywhere anytime soon from what I've heard. They have a contract with Ferrari. It is what it is. You don't have to buy them...

the FER 009 GMT is very very good looking..I think the two brand's getting together was a nice idea but did not deserve a whole set of lines..I mean if many models were PAM models, not yellow branded for FER, they would be more desirable to a common buyer who might never own a ferrari or is too interested in it...but I must admit, the FER line is very very impressive, some beautiful watches there..I love the designs, just wish they were simple PAM models.

IMHO the Ferrari line was a great idea just way to many models. Some people may buy 1 ferrari watch but most likely not multiples. It is also a way for Panerai to produce more watches without saturating the market with PAMs.

The Red Faced Fer is pretty good looking. But, just like I have a hard time let's say wearing a tee shirt for some place I have never been. I just don't think I can/should wear a Ferrari watch.

Now, when my ship comes in and I get that Ferrari - I may have to change my post!
