Suggestions for 40mm tool/sports watch that is thin and modern?

I am searching for a 40mm tool/sports watch that is thin, modern and high quality. It must have good WR with a screw-down crown and be able to withstand daily use and abuse. Normally this would lead to various Rolex models but I already own those and want a change of scenery! The AP Royal Oak 15300 or Chrono 26300 (39mm) would be perfect but their prices have jumped up too much over past two years. I need suggestions because after at least 20hrs of searching every website and magazine possible I still can't locate the ideal watch!

-$12k or less (pre-owned is fine)
-Compact dimensions; 40mm or 42mm max but must be 12mm thick or less which eliminates many watches.
-Contemporary or modern styling. Not really looking for a vintage / retro 'throwback' watch otherwise the Tudor Black Bay Fifty Eight would be a contender.
-Stainless, titanium or ceramic cases are all fine. Open to strap or metal bracelet.
-Should have date and even a chronograph would be fine.

I looked at the various AT models and they are very nice but they are quite thick (14mm IIRC) and my heart is hoping for a watch from a slightly smaller and more exclusive manufacture. That is probably silly but this purchase is more about emotions than need ;)

GP Laureato, Zenith Defy Classic, Piaget Polo S and Breitling Navi 8. Cartier is dressier but they are quite slim.

Here's another one for you but its 12.5 mm I believe. They have a 43.5 and 39.5 mm option. There are many color and strap choices as well. Great watch.

If you like the Royal Oak style then perhaps consider the IWC Ingenieur - loads of different models to pick from with various complications and features. It’s a lovely watch and quite underrated so could be had for a bargain pre owned.

Likewise if you want to step it up to holy trinity then the VC overseas.

Again can be had for a quite a good price pre owned and also has that Genta styling from the RO.

Sports watch....it does have a bracelet and it's super light. That's enough boxes for me I think.
