I know a guy who got both white Daytona C and BLRO without waiting from Little Switzerland in Cayman for being a big spender so it figures.

A few months ago, walked into an AD hoping to find a BLNR. They had a BLNR, white Daytona, black Daytona, SD43, Hulk, Deep Blue and others in caskets and untouched. I bought the white Daytona...

Limited history for me with AD, only having bought one Sea Dweller in the past, no PM watches. Took just over 2 years of waiting after I called up shortly after it was released. They ran a proper list and would tell me what position I was when I phoned up every 6m or so. I think it’s quite hard for the ADs to control it to be honest, everyone wants one; I was a little bit lucky.

The funny thing is, I liked the wait. I love having the watch, of course (even though it’s a ‘20 year old watch’...and feels good value compared to any pre 1980 Daytona which have inexplicably ballooned in value by about 200x) but a small part of me misses the weird enjoyment of the chase! If it was easy, getting one (at RRP) wouldn’t mean much I suppose.

I think you have a chance if you’re willing to be patient and demonstrate that you want the watch to wear rather than sell.

No that’s not possible. Second was a black skyD. Not sure how you jumped to a third Daytona. Then they let Rolex scare them and stopped selling out of state. That last part is speculation but I was told they aren’t allowed to ship any longer.

Your road to the Daytona 116500LN

It amazes me that so many people virtually beg an AD to spend 13k on a ss watch.. And then, they jump to the grey market. Go for the TT fellas, go for the TT... It is a beautiful and prestigious watch. Or for the WG, if possible... AD s can ship out of state no problem, if they trust the buyer.

Was complimenting a WIS colleague about a Kermit he was wearing, talked watches a bit. He called the CFO of the AD he did all his purchases from. I had a black Daytona 5 hours later.

My own AD doesn’t even seem interested in putting me on a list for anything, despite spending a nice amount of coin there in the past.

It’s simply luck of the draw which AD you use and what their practices are.

You are right on the money. I’m fortunate that my closest AD is in a small market. Less competition for me as a buyer.

My first ceramic was from a grey dealer....traded for a zenith patrizzi....second ceramic was from a grey...then traded for 116520 cream Daytona. Everything box and papers.

I moved to a new city and started relationship with AD. Asked to have name added to list. Over the next 18 months I purchased a Sub date (gifted to a dear friend) and some misc jewelry pieces for my wife. Stopped in regularly and became friends with the salesperson and met the owner.
Got the call on Daytona C 18 months into the journey. I wouldn't call a sub date and a few jewelry pieces an extensive purchase history.
I have become known to them as a WIS, local resident, non flipper and loyal customer for the short term and long term. Since my Daytona C purchase, I have also acquired a SD43 and a couple more jewelry items for my wife. I will purchase more watches and jewelry from them so our relationship is mutually beneficial.

It'd be much less expensive with my current AD relationship, but the road to my Daytona was simple enough: I saw it, I wanted it, I found lowest NIB grey price I could, and put it on my wrist the following day. What's sometimes missing from these discussions is buying grey can also avoid sales tax, so in my case I was only $5k over sticker. It's not a small amount of money, but this is capitalism which coincidentally is the same system that affords me the ability to purchase watches. The self-righteous indignation of some over this point is bewildering to me, particularly when 99% of the planet thinks we're all nuts for spending this much money on watch whether it's $12k or $18k.
