I just got an Air King (blue face with orange numerals) this week and to my surprise the numerals do not glow in the dark. No mention of it either way in the manual. This surprises me.

Also, I read an article yesterday on the internet that one of the reasons the Air King is less expensive is that it lacks COSC certification, yet mine states it is. Was the article incorrect or has Rolex recently begun COSC certification since that article was written?

Its just recently been COSC tested, but before it was, the Explorer had exactly the same movement as the Airking and Non date Sub.Explorer COSC tested but Airking and Sub not. The COSC is IMHO a pure marketing ploy as all Rolex movements could easily pass the test, same could be said for many others with a bit of careful regulation.Regarding the lume well don't worry about it,if it was a lume dial,Rolex lume is not one of the best.

Congratulations on the Air King... a great classic..

If you have the 3-6-9 dial, I don't believe that they lume the numerals; only the bars in between.. Still, it's one of the best dial designs ever...

The new Air Kings are COSC certified and have been for a while, but before that, as Padi says, they were fully capable of the same standards.. However, I don't think that COSC or not, there would be a large variation in initial cost. It certainly wouldn't be the reason why it cost less..

I would say that whatever internet article you read with such a simplistic statement, it should be completely discounted and tossed in the trash...

sounds like the concentric dial - i don't believe that the hands on that model have any lume whatsoever. i've got the new blue 3 6 9, and it has lumed hands and you can't see them anyways. lume is REALLY not a strong point with the new AKs.

I have the new air king with the blue dial and orange numbers I love it as it is a departure from the old style air king and I am happy without the lume,the solid hands look very sleek.Heres a photo.

Anyone else notice... the 6 is actually a 9?

It's not a big deal I suppose, until you really want to see your watch at night. Heck, my Citizen EcoDrive will almost light up the inside of my car! ;-)

Oh, I don't have the 369 but rather the blue with all numerals, don't know if it has a particular name.

My non-COSC 369 Air-King gains 2~3 seconds daily, it's a very good watch. I love it.

This one glows nicely, even the thin hour and minute hands
...but only (as an earlier poster said) the markers at 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11
(standard Rolex greenish glow)

My Air-King does not glow also, But it is a great watch.
