Newbie question
Hi Folks
Taking the likes of the Pepsi for example in such high demand and eventually they will be in the wild in large numbers will the price drop considerably? Does it work like that? Would a watch like the yacht master and explorer that is not that sort after in years to come be more valuable as they are rarer?? Thanks |

Current price is determined by desirability (demand) and availability (supply). Fashion is fickle so hard to predict.
Supply is also unknown to most (except for refs that are no longer made). So your guess is probably as good as anyone else’s. I’d just buy the watches that you like to wear. Chances are that any Rolex will retain a lot of its value and many do even better than that. |

All of this is really hard for me to predict, so I don't. It would be nice if Yacht-masters are worth a whole bunch more sometime in the future, as I own one, but that's not why I wear it today. [Well, not today, as I still have yesterday's OP on.]

I totally agree a watch should be bought purely because you like it and not just for resale, it's nice to know what you do have the ass won't fall out of it the moment it's been purchased

Most all of the SS Rolex professional line up have held their prices well on the secondary market for decades, but modern day watches like the YM, Explorer range not so well as say the SUB and GMT range..

There is no modern Rolex that is rare. There are 1000s upon 1000s upon 1000s of them everywhere. A rare item is when its hard to get your hands on meaning only a handful of people have them. ANY modern rolex can be attained from pretty much ANY gray dealer around the world. |

its about supply and demand more than collectibility as really none are rare and are still produced in huge numbers. Some are produced in a way that more closely matches demand and others are not. There are still a lot of all of them though.

Yup totally agree. It's gonna take a while to see the Pepsi's everywhere, but it is inevitable for a modern day Rolex. Probably right now when people's names are being called 50/50 are either wearing them or placing them immediately for sale to reap the profits so many are just sitting in a box waiting to be sold. Once the profits start decreasing then more and more people will actually be wearing them.
