Icon14 NYC Expert

I am looking at investing in a couple watches and was wondering if anyone could suggest someone in NYC who could look over anything I buy and confirm originality, movements, etc.

I’m thinking about a 1655, 5508 and a 6542

Thanks a lot

Watches aren't the best investment.

Andrew Shear , he charges no more than all other dealers you are paying so you don’t have the worry and don’t have to check , he has some lovely inventory

There are a few but people trading with high-end vintage is more appointment only and seldom a real store. If you just want to browse and look there are plenty of places around the diamond district. Rarely great pieces but once in a while something fun pops up.

ah i see, I bumped into a few collectors in the bars and some one told me about a place with many vintage watches. thought this was a joint like that. thanks. I dont trust those places actually, despite all the business I do there.

You ALWAYS have to double and triple check a Piece.Just because a Dealer has it doesn’t mean it’s 100% correct. In fact I’ve seen Pieces from some big Name Dealers that where far from correct.

Be sure to check in with John at Altiques on Bowery. He's a tremendous expert and has some inventory (he sells out quickly, fair prices).

I'm a longtime New Yorker and a longtime vintage watch collector. I've tried numerous watchmakers in NYC through the years for repairs/service and never been completely happy. Now I just send my watches to Bob Ridley or LAWW, vintage experts. There are other options. Just search the forum for recommendations.

Another option is RSC on 5th Avenue. Just make sure your instructions are super clear and in writing, such as don't change dial/hands, no polishing, etc....

Good luck.
