Breaking E-Bay Rules

Can anyone explain why e-bay has withdrawn the Rolex outer/inner boxes that I was bidding on? What rules would someone selling their old boxes break?

I wanted to replace the missing outer box for a 15200 I've recently aquired and this seemed the perfect opportunity until e-bay informed me that the item I was bidding on broke one of their rules - they refused to say which.

Can anyone enlighten me? Is the only way to get a replacement box from Rolex?

You were probably bidding on a fake and someone blew the whistle on the seller.

Came up a while back - eBay is worried about infringement. Loads of fake Rolex boxes, booklets, etc. were moving through eBay.

My friend buys/sells Rolex items of memorabilia...spy glasses, paperweights, pens etc.

Ebay has suspended his account. He spoke to them and they said it was due to an issue with copyright and Rolex.

At present it seems it is only UK sellers who have this problem but it will soon be worldwide.

That does seem to smack of 'Big Brother'. Does it mean that anyone dealing in any Rolex items, without Rolex's express permission, is breaking the rules?

I'm all for keeping things exclusive and genuine but what happens to the dealers at the watch fairs who sell various Rolex related items? Will they face being hounded out?

Does it also mean that all Rolex related items, such as pens, calendars, folders, brochures etc are worthless as you can no longer sell them?

hmmmm. I just got done selling a lot of three vintage boxes with no issues...

It could also be the seller pulling the item before the sale if he did not get what he wanted for it

I think one of the reason is ebay-try to avoid selling boxes..because they might be used to fool people and putting a fake item on the original box...its not only Rolex boxes...they might be some people who can get away with the sales..but trust me there are millions of item that they always look into..if they get a chance to encounter one they will close it...My wife was looking for a original box for her Chanel bag so she can store it...we saw one on ebay then after 2 days they canceled it..we contact the seller and he said he violated the rules...so we descided to do the transaction outside ebay...

Ebay did you a big favor. You were likely bidding on a fake Rolex box. Selling them is against the law. Likely, it was reported to ebay from a member here.

Ebay no longer allows the sell of luxury watch boxes because fraudsters were buying them and using them to package fakes, thus giving the replicas a veneer of legitimacy.
