Icon10 What a day! [Long]

So there I was out and about in town today, when I get the call!!!

My friendly AD telling me the Daytona is IN!

OH MY!!!

"Do you still want it Sir?"

"Yes Please!!!"

I paid there & then over the phone - it's being shipped.

A very happy man, I went on about my business with the family, doing the Xmas shopping.

I pop in to my alternate AD, (who had offered me a GV some time ago if I bought another watch). I had told him at the time that my "list" needs to be completed in order, and the list was Daytona, then GV, then anything else (in time of course)

I told him, guess what, I got the call on the Daytona!

He looked at me and said that's great news! We have a great relationship, but I had never actually bought anything from him.

He said "You've had a good week! How about we make it better. Want that GV that I've got in the safe?"

WHAT!!!!!!

**Immediate decision time**

...Hadn't planned for this!!! .... Normally have a 1 - 3 year gap between purchases ...Quick calculations on Watch purchase funds... It's gonna be tough, but I could get both... hadn't planned on it... but prices may be going up .... when will I get another one offered to me... would have to sacrifice other things... no other luxuries for YEARS!....gonna have to work EXTRA HARD...

LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

So in one glorious day - I get BOTH GRAIL WATCHES - I've been looking 6 years for Daytona and 1 year for GV!!!!!

WOW - guys great things can happen if you believe...

Needless to say pics to follow, and just like to say thanks to you all for being a great bunch of cool guys and gals - theres a fantastic community spirit here and I love reading all your posts!

Congratulations on both watches.
What colour dial did you ask for on the Daytona?

Thanks for all your kind comments guys. I am in the doghouse at the moment as my family question my sanity in buying two of these watches in the same period! What can I say, I'm a collector!

Pics to follow when I get my camera from the office, and the Daytona is a white faced model.

Sometimes you just have to go for it.

So what's going into the "Want List" now?

Just give your wife a huge alfalfa kiss, melt her into her shoes, and give her your credit cards, the car keys and "that look" of understanding! That will make the world right in her eyes!!!

Granted you will be in debt for the next 100 years, but you will also have two new Rolex's in which to watch the time go by! It doesn't get any better than that!

Congrats BZA, sometimes it does seem to "work that way."

It's getting a bit "dangerous" to be on too many lists... Ask Mike, Felly, Charliec, me...

I'm hoping I don't get "the call" on a SS black Daytona until next year, my watch budget is shot for now.

Q? What does this show about the state of the economy with so many "grails" becoming available?

IMHO As long as deflation does not last too long, I see buying the "grails" as a good investment now for when inflation or hyper-inflation kicks in. If we are still in deflation in the start of 2010, we'll all wish we had waited. Whether we admit it or not I'm sure most of us do consider or watch collections as some sort of investment.

i wonder if that's a record? how many rolexes have been bought in a single day for personal use with personal funds. (i mean to exclude purchases a company might make for promotionals, watches bought with company pr funds)
