What are odds the rest of GMT models get new movements next year?

I am not real knowledgeable on what Rolex has done with other models when it comes to changing movements in existing models. Obviously they came out with the new movement at Basel 2018 for some GMT's but still are selling most models with the old movement.

How has Rolex done this in the past with other lines? Do they gradually over many years change the rest of the GMT line over to the new movement? Or do you feel they will just abruptly/quickly change over all remaining GMT's to the new movement (which you would have to think would be announced at Basel 2019).

Again, I only ask to get a grip on pricing. If one can get a better deal in 5 months on the old movements, then that's great. However, if Rolex normally does this very slowly.....then it might not be worth waiting if it might be another 3 years before they actually change the remaining models.

I'm hoping they all do. My feeling is that 40hr PR is too low for this day and age especially when you may not have a winder or rotate between several watches the extra PR would be great.

I would think that as soon as all of the old movements are placed into watches a new movement will be placed into the all of the GMT's that have not already converted.

I kept waiting forever, but just gave in and bought one with the old movement. I must say, it is accurate AF so I have been more than happy. Now that I bought an old one, the new are bound to start showing up in all lines.

I hope the rest get the new 3285 because it’s outstanding. Accuracy has blown all my other movements away at 0.0 seconds in 3 weeks and counting. It’s so good, it has surpassed all my quartz movements and only my smart GPS watch that syncs time to the satalite can keep up to it. Seriously, it’s a amazing mechanical movement.
It’s not position sensitive and it’s 70hr Powere Reserve is finally here.

After Rolex put red letters on a Seadweller and released a steel BLRO anything is possible, except for a stainless steel Day Date.
Would I wait for one, nope. I would buy whatever watch was available for purchase when I was looking. All GMTs are pretty scarce, if they did update to new movements, you'd have a harder time finding the watch and the benefits aren't earth shattering.

A bird in the hand....

You're not thinking correctly. You won't get a better deal in 5 months on the old movements. They will attain "discontinued" status and therefore be extremely rare and valuable.

Or the remaining GMT with the old movement become discontinued, works both ways. It should in theory boost production capacity for the newer GMT models, and somewhat simplify the product line up.

Now they started it makes sense to continue down this model first rather than jump across to other models in a cherry picking fashion, but Rolex's old orthodox release rules are being broken all the time.

Yup, new survey shows after leaving Oxford most politics graduates consider a job in either parliament of grey dealerships to best exercise their spin skills.

Are you kidding ? no more BLNR ? no way. At least one or two years production with the new movement and it will be history like the old 16710 with the 3186. Everyone prepare for massive lineups of the new BATMAN !!

Will the 116710LN gain in value for being discontinued or loose value to a serge of new Black GMT's with a stellar movement/bracelet?

If the BLNR does indeed get the new movement I'd take that as a sign that Rolex plans to maintain production for a couple more years at least. Nothing is ever guaranteed, and plans change all the time. So of course its possible that the BLNR gets the new movement and then gets discontinued. But it's not the norm, and I'd think it would be a long shot that it goes down like that. Now if other GMTs get the new movement and the BLNR is left out of the party, I'd say that bodes poorly for that model's continuation.

Rolex did not come up with newer, more robust, more accurate movements for no reason.

They do want to have the premier movements in the industry.

The fact that they came up with more advancements proves that.

They will s-l-o-w-l-y be incorporated as production continues.

Expect this to take years.

While funny, that actually seems to be true. Unlike, say automobiles, where if a new model year has 50 more hp, the old model would sink like a stone. With watches, well with Rolex watches, they are always getting better. But as soon as they upgrade the movement, the bezel, the clasp, the crystal, whatever, the old one goes UP in value. And when Patek brings a movement in house, you would *think* that would be a positive, but collector mentality seems to be, "well now they can produce as many as they want, supply will go up and so price will go down."

Watches are a crazy world, IMO!
