The PAM 26K

Saw this a few weeks back and thought it looked superb, re-released for the paneristi as stated by the chairman at Panerai, but unfortunately it just seems to be another watch released to the flippers and profiteers as about the only way i could get one is by paying a huge premium.

I guess the popularity of panerai and the collectability of the watches is starting to be its own downfall, guys like me have loved the brand, i can't afford the top end stuff even though i'd love a 311 or 317, but now it looks like anything good in the lower priced stuff will be bought up and sold at a premium as well

When the special editions are shown in the spring, there is RUSH by the Risti's, phoning & placing orders with their AD's for these pieces.
I tried for a couple, but my AD is only getting a select few of the SE's.
I do have my name on the list for the 26, but the others are coming to my area.
Now, there are a few "flippers" who buy large quantities of BNIB from their AD's, so they seem to get on the list for these SE's, then they show up at huge markups on the sales boards.
I hear that Panerai is now trying to move more of the SE's through the boutiques, to help curb this.
BUT, I, and a number of others are having issues with this. I have bought all but 2 from my AD. One was from a friend, another from another AD. So now , If I call the Boutique to get on a list, they have no idea who I am, and my chances of getting anything are remote.

It's pointless looking at anything remotely limited with panerai anymore, i'm going to hang fire until i see what they release next year, not really holding out much hope though.

Argee1977 - Quench the thirst... Roll with a 177 for awhile... I know the movement issue is on your mind... Roll with it for awhile and flip it. You'll get some serious enjoyment out of it.

The end all to be all can be had down the road - in the meantime that 177ti can be with you through some important moments in the next year or two until PAM rolls something out that you just can't imagine not having. Just a thought.

I am a little biased as my 177 is the only PAM I have currently but, I need to fix that soon...

Some comments ....

The 26 is so extremely sought after because its the cheapest of the 2008 SEs.My AD have a long list of names for the 26 ................

I personally am not to fond of the pvd and lefty design.My name is not on the list.

I am getting the impression that they are holding the SEs back until the increase in pricing,which took effect,1st of Dec,around these parts.Talking about Vendome ,not the dealers.

The 2008 SE line-up,is not the best I have seen.2006,does come to mind as a great collection.

I'll pay above list for a 127 or 232,but not for a 26.

Supply and demand and demand is very high.He that gets one ,has a very good relationship with the AD.

Yeah, if only the 177 was an auto i'd have the watch i want, the thing is i have the money, the AD has a 177 but i have this nagging doubt that i'll buy it and then next year Panerai will release this watch in an auto version, so i'll wait until SIHH to see what is on the horizon for Panerai, it's only a month away.

PAM 127 is actually now lower priced.Three months ago,sold for around $23k,now down anywhere between $19-21k.Even saw one at $16.5k about a week ago.Sign of the times ...

PAM 127,have seen it in the metal twice now.It is an extraordinary Panerai !!

Panerai watches are well built, but these oversized watches will not be in fashion very long. We are not that far away from these huge watches being out of style like bell bottom pants. I know you HATE to hear this, but I think I'm only person who can save you from paying thousands of dollars for a style of watch that you'll be embarassed to wear in 5 to 10 years. Again, I know you think I'm totally wrong, but you must admit that you wore clothes a few years ago that you wouldn't be seen dead in now and these huge watches with simple dials will not be something you wear in a few years. The Panerai trend is fading my friends. The only thing unique about Panerai are the huge cases so ask yourself what happens to their value when huge cases are no longer in style? Are there thousands of people who will buy your huge, pre-owned watches when that trend is over?

I'm not saying this to be mean. I genuinely worry that Panerai owners are over spending on watches which will not meet the test of time and I don't want to see that happen to you.

when most every company is producing larger watches including

People are getting bigger, average height etc has been going up and
up.... I think you would be better suited worrying about your own money

I agree that I should have not posted in this tread because I do not want to take away from this poster's passion for his watch and I send my appologies to all on this tread. But, I am deeply concerned about those investing in Panerai watches so I have decided to start my own thread in the general discussion.

So let's all see what others have to say in that thread.

That being said, We love our Panearis and most of us are fortunate to be in position to enjoy them. Everybody should have little luxuries to enjoy. Each one has different luxuries and priorities. Panerai is my little luxury and I enjoy them. What's so wrong with that?

If you think about Panerais being faddish, then go start your own thread instead of being an one trick pony in this and other threads.

The great thing about this forum is we all have a passion and we all have an opinion, i respect what you say and yes, it could happen, but the thing you must remember is that Panerai have a large following and only produce a limited number of watches each year. There is also no other brand quite like Panerai out there, yes there are oversized watches, yes there are better watches but Panerai is pretty much found a niche and it's been followed by a lot of people.

To give you a clue about what the current climate is like, in my local AD the Panerai are moving and that includes some seriously high priced ones, other makes like Rolex, IWC and JLC seem to be struggling though and with each price rise people seem to be looking elsewhere when it comes to Rolex. I really hope the prices start to settle and the watches start to sell as i like all of the makes i've mentioned, owning most of them at some point in the last couple of years.
