Question about trade in value

Hey guys,

I'm considering trading my 15450st in the near future and just wanted to get some opinions about what I should expect in regard to value?

Around $14 would be my guess depending on condition/year/service.

Submit a quote request to crown and caliber. Theyve always given me decent offers on my watches.

I found large dealers always giving lower value for trade ins... better to do a straight sale and buy the watch you want for cash as you can get a better deal on both ends of the transaction, rather than getting screwed on same both ends with a trade in... sure more hassle and not as convenient but if 2-2.5K is a difference worth dealing with for you, I’d go down that path

I would contact Davidsw or Takuya and see what they can offer you as they're usually pretty fair considering they'd have to resell it. Otherwise, if you want the most out of it and don't mind a bit of legwork (as well as a bit of risk) you can always check chrono24 or the sale section here on TRF for market asking prices. Good Luck!

Govberg gives ridiculous trade in and cash values. Ive sold or traded off over 6 watches over the past 2 years and crown and caliber have given either the same or slightly better cash offers than trusted sellers.

Get out of here; you heard that they're planning on discontinuing the silver dial 15450?

I’ve done trades with both David and Thanh... reasonable offers and super smooth transactions/trades highly recommended. I’ve also dealt w Govberg- also very professional and easy but offers for trade ins are on low side for sure.

Have you sold to those companies or just traded? Wondering which route I might get the most money with?

Traded. If I had the time, patience, and bravery, I THINK Iwould have gotten the most $ by selling on TRF

The trade value will depend on what you want in return and if that watch is pre-owned or new. Understand the margins on new watches and look on Chrono24 for current asking prices both on your watch and the watch you are looking at getting into. Remember asking and getting are two different numbers from dealers. Typically take 3-7% off ask price unless you are dealing with a hot watch like a SS Daytona or PP Nautilus. I have always found it easier to trade with a Trusted Seller than to sell myself. Most times the difference in value between selling myself is negligible when you take into account all of the factors.

I have traded to different local/regional dealers, usually I hit up 10-20 dealers, a quick short email and see what is the best price. I traded in my 5712A recently and I had offers varying from 36k-49k so it varies a lot.

Just like anything I would get as many options as possible, sending a email to 20 dealers should be quite fast less than 30 min. I've never lost money till date on my trades, till date even with dealers albeit I've only trade 2 pieces out of my collection. I expect to make some losses on some more of my "exotic" pieces but which would be more than offset by the gains made from my current trend pieces.

Basically patience is key, and keep an open mind.

Agree with what Karasus said below. Never hurts to get multiple quotes.

On 5712A...why didn’t you PM me haha. Love that piece.

I figured that would always be one of their staples.

Not questioning the veracity of the info - but curious where you heard it (AP direct ?) and if there is any other news about SIHH ‘19 given it’s just around the corner.

Have sent two trade requests to Govberg and haven’t gotten any responses. It’s been weeks. Not very confidence inspiring.

I’ve dealt with DavidSW and always felt values were fair.

That’s a shame. I think Govberg/WatchBox has gotten too big for their own good. It seems like they are trying to capitalize on the entire worldwide pre-owner market.
