The Rolex OP was, at worst, one of two watches to reach the summit in the first successful expedition, and possibly two of three, depending on how many watches Hillary may have “carried” to the top.

The bottom line is that it was the OP - a precursor to the Explorer - and not the Explorer itself, that can boast of this heritage. The notion suggested by a previous poster that the Explorer is the watch with the more prestigious history is a misunderstanding of that very history.
Ha ha ha. Allow me to laugh. I do not believe that Colonel Jonh Hunt, head of the expedition, will give a serpha a Rolex, with the classics that were at that time. In addition there were 30 Serphas in total, one Rolex for the 12 British and another 30 for the Serphas. 42 Rolex in total

Ha ha ha

Yep, the Explorer is a little bit of an imposter. The OP is actually the explorer's watch.

Rolex is the impostor. Smiths is the first and only one that conquered Everest. Rolex scored a point that does not correspond and naive fans support this lie.
It is impossible that in 1953 Rolex supplied 42 Rolex to the expeditionaries, 12 British and 30 Serphas. because they would have to supply it to everyone because they did not know in advance who was going to conquer the mountain

I like Rolex a lot. I have an Explorer and a Datejust but with the falsehoods I can not

Tenzing Norgay, for one, wore a Rolex he already owned;

Oh I wasn't referring to the Everest thing in my previous post but rather the Ian Fleming/Bond connection to the Explorer, IMHO it is just a bit more of an exciting watch to own. Its pretty common knowledge among Rolex fans that if a Rolex made it to Everest it was an OP and the Explorer was to Commemorate the expedition. I think the new 39mm white OP is a great successor of the Everest watch.
