Traveling to the States with more than one Rolex
I'm coming home back to the States for Christmas.
Is having more than one Rolex on me ( one on my wrist, one in my carry one ) going to cause me any complications in the unlikely event that US Customs should search me? Like "Why are you carrying two watches, are you going to sell one?" Neither will stay in the States. I simply want to wear more than one ( not at the same time, I'm not a baller like Maradonna. ) Part II. "Are these real?" Counterfeits. Would you carry receipts and the warranty cards to somewhat show that they are real. Part III. Am I being f*&^%$!g paranoid? |

I think you are being paranoid. I am vacationing with my family in California right now. We arrived a week ago. I wore a Pam 292j and brought an Explorer 2 in my handcarry. My son wore a Speedmaster and had a Pam 299 in his handcarry. My wife wore an Oyster Perpetual 39 and had a Bell & Ross 03-92 in her handcarry. We had no problems at all. Or maybe we were just lucky.

I travelled for a while back and forth to the US with my Deepsea on, a brand new 116710 which I wasn't sure I was keeping, a Suunto Core, and Polar v800.
Never had an issue coming or leaving the US. A few times the 116710 was in it's box with papers which would look real suspicious...but never had an issue, not once. However, traveling like this was a huge, I mean YUGE issue going into Argentina where I lived at the time or entering Morocco and Spain. In Argentina I went through an enormous process to get them cleared and couldn't fly out of the country unless I went through a special office to prove I still had them before I could receive a boarding pass. Morocco and Spain were hit and miss with harassment. But in America, no issues...I still travel back and forth with two watches, one on, and one in a shock case in my back pack, all the time, zero problems. I don't carry box and papers for fear of losing them. However in your case, if the watches were bought abroad and you have a US passport, and you were stopped for some crazy reason(you look all sweaty and shout nervously at the customs agent "I HAVE TWO WATCHES - WANT TO SEE") I would think foreign sales receipt would just make it more susceptible to being charged duties. I honestly wouldn't worry coming to America with multiple watches, it's the returning back to whence you came that I'd be more concerned with. |

if you have a return ticket and not carrying the box/papers im not sure why they would think you are "importing"or selling them. I travel to the US with a BLRO, 5990, and a 5164 4 times in the past two months and no issues. No one has even wondered what they are at the security line when X raying the bags let alone customs... returning to the UK no problems as they were bought here and i paid tax so i can prove that if necessary.
carry a picture of the receipt/card if it makes you feel better as far as proving they are real, but i wouldn't bring them along as then it looks like you are importing/selling.

do you happen to have global entry? The plus side is no one asks you anything. You can still get spot checked but its not 20 questions so its less likely to even come up

Is there a declaration card or paper you can get in Japan before you leave? We have a green declaration card in Canada that you can write the serial number on and is signed and stamped by a customs agent on the way out. When you enter the US or go back to Japan you should just be able to show the card and be left alone. I do this for my firearms when I travel and lots of people do it for their cameras and computers. I also have a photo of my Rolex warranty card and receipt on my phone if an overly agressive agent starts causing issues. All being said, I have never been asked anything about my watches while crossing the border by plane or car and you likely won’t either. Have a safe trip!

Have a happy and safe trip
I travel with a picture of my sales receipt and warranty card on my phone. I’ve never been asked, but as the saying goes, anything that can happen may happen Gives me piece of mind |

I’ve always got around 600 photos of my watches on my phone as fallback in case they try to say they were purchased abroad.

The tricky part is that you are an American citizen. AFAIK, if you are an American citizen and purchased an item overseas and bringing the item back into the US, there is customs due. If you are Japanese and bringing 2 watches into the US while vacationing in the US thay would be a different story.
However for the most part, I don't think US Customs will do a search and question you unless you are stopped for secondary screening for something suspicious. |

Travelling with more than one piece for me is a great idea, at least you wear one for each day, you don't have to be paranoid.

When I travel on hunting trips, I visit a US Customs office and have them fill out a form that proves I owned the guns prior to the trip. You can do the same with any item such as watches, cameras, etc. There has to be a US Customs office in Japan where you can get the form filled in and stamped.

I traveled to three different countries this year, and was never questioned about carrying a watch roll with three timepieces. I have a feeling you'll be fine!

I wouldn't say you're paranoid, just thorough. I wouldn't expect any issues. If someone else is traveling with you, consider having them wear the 2nd watch if it makes you more comfortable.
Let us know how it goes. |

Try returning as a nonresident. As you won't be entering as a resident, you shouldn't be liable to import duty on watches purchased overseas.

I wouldn't sweat the watches. At Christmas time, I'm sure CBP will be just trying to clear the lines. Welcome home and Merry Christmas.
