While in the mall, I was browsing the web on my phone while waiting for my wife and daughter, who were shopping. My daughter came up to me and asked me what time it was. I put down my phone and checked my watch, and told her. She said she found it really interesting that I was already on my phone but I still looked at my watch to check the time.

For everyone saying this is a dumb topic I apologize. I'm really new here and was interested in starting conversations with the community, I guess I crapped out.

But in all honesty a lot of people with Watches don't ever set their watch to the time and just pull out their phones so that's why I asked, I'll make sure to think of a better topic next time I promise. And if any mods want to delete this topic please feel free

Edit: my phone is autocorrecting like hell today I fixed 3 errors in the past hour

Hey, don't worry. If you think heavy equipment is hard on a watch you can do as much or worse damage to a cell phone. Rolex watches have done it all. Generally speaking, over thinking is the biggest reason not to wear a rugged watch,

I completely understand, but my cell phone was only $450 and my Rolex watches are anywhere from $10,000 to $38,000 so yeah I'll take the chance with the phone not the watch LOL

Far easier to destroy a cell than a Rolex and far easier to have a Rolex repaired. For rough environments and travel I wear my five digit ExpII. For water my SD4K. For everything else I wear my Platona. It's good to own watches which you're comfortable wearing in all your environments!!!

On a watch forum that people spend thousands for a watch and take hundreds of photos and talk about the most minute dial details, you expect us to say we use our phones.

You boast that you bought a $38k watch, but prefer to use your phone.
I don't mean any disrespect but this is right up there with the most ridiculous things I've heard.
It's like 10 times faster to look at my wrist then dig in my pocket, especially with short sleeves on.
It's like we're being trolled, sorry.

I'm sounding like a troll? you say I prefer my phone which I have never said I prefer my Watch. I admit earlier that I have made a bad habit out of checking my phone.

I didn't boast about anything, Rolex watches are expensive it doesn't make sense to boast on a ROLEX forum where I should expect mostly veryone to have a Rolex which by the way are very expensive pieces.

And if you didn't read the replies a lot of people are saying they check/sometimes check their phones. I already admitted earlier that this was a dumb topic and for a mod to delete it was just trying to get some convos going try to get to know some people but I guess I am too big a noob to this site to realize that this was a bad topic while typing it. I just like Rolex Watches and wanted to talk about them. Wasn't being a troll

I’ll give you credit for actually starting a topic that isn’t about how much something is worth or about ADs having no sports steel. Keep it up.

Right, much more significant topic about whether or not to wear a Rolex or keep it in plastic in a safe. Great improvement!!!

IMHO it's much more entertaining. As for not being "significant", I think that can be said about most of the topics here on TRF... It's a watch forum not a forum discussing important scientific discoveries.

My watch. It's much more convenient to look down at my wrist to see the time than to go look and try to remember where I last left my cell phone....

I look at my iPhone to set the time on my Rolex, when necessary.

For me watch is made for a quick glance to catch the time.
Care to explain why you don't wear a watch?

Like I said in a post above, I work with heavy machinery in a pharmaceutical company. We manage huge Bosch Tablet Machines and I work with machines upwards of 500 pounds very frequently and not to mention lots of spinning metal around me. I don't know if I can explain anymore without my boss getting mad but it's a very dangerous environment. I've had bumps and bruises and destroyed iPhones in the past so it would be very foolish of me to bring a Rolex valued over $5,000 to have it cracked or even destroyed if caught in one of the machines I work on. (it probably sounds highly unlikely to you guys what I'm saying but trust me it's very possible for anything to happen where I work)

I will always catch myself as I reach for my phone, but then I pull my wrist to my face and remind myself that I have watch on.

I have been training myself to do this more and more the days I have my Rolex on, but more days without it on mean more days checking my phone. I should buy a cheap watch to wear to work just to break the habit honestly

I use my watch. Often I end up just admiring it briefly, continue on, then realize I still don't know what time it is and check again.

I look at my watch twice to tell the time. The first time I look I get distracted by it's two-toned beauty and get lost in that sunburst dial.

Then I remember that I needed to know the time, so I look closely again to check that.

:)
