Is it possible to convert a first gen Deepsea into Deepblue?
Just as the title says, I have the first model that came out, and would love to purchase a dial and convert. My AD shot me down and claims Rolex does not allow it.

I think you would need to source a Dial on your own, and have an independent watch maker perform the swap.
Might be challenging to track one down, head down to 47th st. And ask around, I see you are in New York. |

Thanks for the reply. No longer in NY for a while now, need to update that.
So we don't know of any reputable online source maybe? |

Why would you?
Much simpler solution is to sell your 116660 for a 126660. You're not going to source a 3235 movement, new longer hands, new wider bracelet etc. Sourcing a new dial would only mod your existing watch and you wouldn't be able to have it properly pressure tested. |

Yea man you should just sell it and buy the real JC. I believe when you say "deep blue" you are referring to the James Cameron right? If so, I have one and I wear it probably more than all of my other watches. I love the way it feels and the weight of it, plus its very versatile and looks great (IMO). I will say however that the dial is really not that blue. Its unlike any other Rolex dial. The top half is blue and it fades into black, its really hardly noticeable. On the other hand, I get "is that a deepsea"? about once a month, but I have a feeling the case is whats noticeable not so much the dial.
Anyway back to your OP, just sell it and buy the one you want, as you will alter the integrity of the watch anyway and make it a tough sell in the future if you swap it out. |

Not surprise that your AD shot you. If your rolex arent that stated model then it should not be equiped with that particular dial. Just like kermit which you can swap the green bezel.

Nor Rolex nor any respectable AD will let you create a fake watch. This is a sensitive issue in which a buyer may later be tricked.
Not saying this is the case but it would be best to sell yours and buy a real one. The Rolex game is for people who have money to spend otherwise just live with your purchase and be happy, some people can't afford it at all. This isn't simply a mod, like changing a bracelet or date wheel color, no way I could accept not having the real thing. The black is very beautiful in it's own right and if that is what I wound up with, no point in chasing the new new. And dial and hands....I consider this a fake. |

You can sometimes get a dial on ebay or on TRF but it can be more trouble than its worth, to find an independent watchmaker and then have to swap back if you need warranty work. The same independent watchmaker can service the watch so that's not as big of a deal.
I agree I'd just keep what you have or sell and get an updated JC DeepSea. |

Have you seen the thread about painting the sub dials on the Daytona? Maybe you can get out the blue paint?

You cannot unless you use a non-original dial. I think Rolex will not sell a deep blue dial.

Even if you managed to source an original one (which doesn’t conform with the model number for your watch), the next question would be if the dial is even compatible with your model. If it is compatible, you wouldn’t be able to service the watch with rolex. As others have said, sell it and buy the watch you want. You will make the buyer Hppy and yourself happy owning the piece you want deep down.

Why? If you want the DBlue then trade for one. The real cameron is the current one you have. He wore the black face mk1 deepsea on his trip.

Ever heard of Paul Newman Daytona? Many were not born with that dial and Rolex would change dials in Daytona's regularly....does that make them fake?

Changing the bezel alone doesn't really do anything. |

It is probably best to sell the watch you have and buy the watch you want, rather than trying to convert.

Franken watches are created all the time. All you need to do is source a fake dial then try to find somebody who can open a DSSD and your on your way. That is provided they will perform the task for you |

When the Deep Blue was launched I saw 2 or 3 dials for sale here on the forum but they were $3,000 or better - best to sell yours and get the blue

But not properly seal it to factory specs. Only certain Rolex service centers have the proper machinery to test the Deepsea's depth rating.

As others have said, if you really want a d-blue, you should sell your black Deepsea. Prices are high right now, so you would get good value for your wath, and pay the incremental few thousand from a dealer for a 126660. Wait times aren't that bad on a d-blue, especially if you have an established relationship.
I have the original d-blue and I love it, but wouldn't want a fake or an aftermarket dial, it would defeat the point in my mind. It's cool because it's a commemorative watch, not just because it's got blue on it. |
