“My AD said”

Yes, I know, but I still like to pass along for kicks. On a phone call with my preferred AD today he told me Rolex has discontinued all SS Yatchmasters....just sayin’.

Doubt it. I believe the Platinum dial is gone, but the rhodium is still around.

Hu? Now that the 116622s blue and rhodium dials have gained sudden interest since the beginning of the sports steel scarcity? Even the discontinued and less popular platinum dial is creeping up preowned. Sorry, I don't buy it.

An object lesson in why "my AD said" threads should rarely be taken seriously. But the entertainment value has real potential.

I’m predicting a fast rollout of the new movements and several models will be discontinued over the next 1-5 years. The model name will be around, but it will be a new reference.

Is rolex discontinuing all watches and going into the fast food business? I feel like with all the discontinued threads, there's nothing left

It’s Rolex’s master plan to get demand for their product as high as possible - eventually there will be no supply at all.

Rolex dont care about used values or the secondary market.

All they care about is initial sales & if the YM is a slow seller & sits around in AD's for months it makes no business sense to carry on making it.

They could put that manufacturing efffort into producing more SS sports models which is their bread & butter.

I agree with you in that if it’s a slow seller they will consider discontinuing it. But I respectfully disagree that they don’t care about used values. They are one of the few luxury brands that don’t lose money as soon as it’s sold. And I think it’s important for Rolex to keep that going because secondary market prices have a huge affect on demand for new pieces.

If I could just clarify.

Yes I agree with you that Rolex are trying (and succeeding) to maintain brand value by limiting the supply of popular references, thus creating artificial demand/hype etc.

What I meant was I don't think Rolex would continue to produce a model that wasn't selling well at the AD just because there was increased demand for it in the secondary market.

Does that kind of make sense??

Apols if it's a bit of backward logic lol.

Regards.

My point about preowned prices of a discontinued model was that there's still some degree of interest from buyers. Also, I've noticed more threads than ever lately about buying a Yacht-Master.

The argument of slow sellers sitting around and risking being discontinued could be applied to many models, DJs, Milgauss, YMII etc and yet Rolex carry on making them.

It seems to me they're willing to put less effort into SS Sports models and more into SS DJs, TT DJs and PM pieces, not the other way around.

In any case, we don't really know what their strategy is. It's just that I'd find it very surprising to suppress a model which seems to have gained momentum lately.

Why do people start these ridiculous threads. My ad said is prefaced as absurd and the op ends with "just sayin" which seems like the op doesn't even believe it.
You know how much bs is traveling through the sky at any given moment for my ears or eyes to absorb...a lot lols.

Turn your filters on people, don't be so gullible when people say ridiculous things, just giggle inside and keep it moving, because if you repeat said bs you will look just as silly as the very same "ad that said it".

You can't buy a YM without a PM bezel, so technically speaking it's true.

Possible but the so called new 32 movement is exactly the same size as the old 31 movements. So quite simple to change movement in any of the current models with no fanfare from Rolex or case design change.PS my AD told all Rolex models will be discontinued as Rolex is going into the fairytale business.

Well one of the most available models is the YM. It wouldn't surprise me to see it discontinued, They're in every AD.
