That's like saying I should get a tomahawk ribeye if I want a filet mignon. Both are excellent cuts of meat, but very different in character, and not interchangeable.

I'll argue for the Air King. It's eccentric and quirky, two traits that the Rolex lineup is not heavy on at all. I love the typography of the Air-King logo. And I like the splash of color in the crown and the Rolex marque.

Everything is a matter of personal taste, but I went with the Explorer (2016) for the heritage, great lume and easylink braclet. Also the Explorer dial has a nice simple understated look which works well with anything. As you know the hands and numeric indices were adjusted starting in 2016 for arguably broader appeal. Not saying the AK isn't a great watch too. I tend to prefer more conservative styling for the most part. Good luck in your decision. Cheers!

I would go with the Explorer over the Air King, but both are excellent watches.

Personally I would go for the Air King. The green pops and is especially unique. It’s a fun watch!
