36 is and always be a classic. To me some of the larger ones look like one is wearing a wall clock

I agree. Just for reference I don't think I'm old either (33) in case you were thinking smaller watches are for older men.

If you have a huge 7.5 inch wrist then fair enough but otherwise 36 for a dress watch is great.

What an interesting debate!! (Sarcasm)
No one is going to win this argument because it is completely subjective. There's obviously a reason why Rolex made a larger size DJ- because there's a high demand for it. If you like to rock the 36mm, that looks awesome too. Maybe they will introduce a 36mm Sub at Basel 2019 (Sarcasm)
Cheers

You joke, but the old 1980s/1990s 36mm Tudor subs are really hot right now.

The question is what is your wrist size? For the gentleman--or lady--with a larger wrist, 36mm may look off. However, someone with a smaller wrist like me, it looks perfect! I think it looks a lot more refined and refreshing in comparison to today's standard. In fact, I may would argue that a 36mm case size on a smaller wrist looks like an equivalent of a 40mm on an average to above average wrist. I base all this on my Tudor Black Bay 36.

It's all about proportion.

36mm is too small in my opinion for men. My wife and her friends wear 36mm and Daytona's

During my lust and search for an explorer for a first foray into Rolex, I found a great deal on a 39mm but was mostly searching for the 36mms. After wearing and owning for a few months it was nice but it wasn't right!!!! That is my complaint about the current range Rolex, the proportions are all wrong and a lot of the time there is too much dial. In my opinion if Rolex produced classic proportions of explorer in 37 or 38mm it'd be perfect.

So instead I bought a 36mm Explorer and it is one of my favourites. I think 36 is a great size but perhaps 37 or 38 is even better.

Of course it looks good on them, they're in the 'look at me' business, but for many women they just look gaudy and clunky, like they're wearing a man's watch.

I can't elaborate on the differences between the 36 and 40 but have tried on both recently trying to decide which one is for me. I like them both. I like the presence of the 40 but like some of the dials and slightly more comfortable fit of the 36. 1st world problem to be sure. I think for me its going to come down to which configuration of gold and dial I like the best. IMO since the solid bracelets were introduced the 36 and 40 are pretty similar other than the obvious size.

I just ordered 36mm Day-Date. First it looked so small compared to my 40mm Day-Date, but in few minutes i started to like it.

Hell yea its a good size! I could've purchased the 40 or 36 but after trying both the 36 won out, its a classic.

I think that looks great. If you want to show off the bracelet, such as in this case, the 36mm works better. It is essentially a piece of functional jewelry. Leaning towards a sporty look, especially on an oyster, 40mm and above works better in my opinion. It just depends on the watch.

Agree wholeheartedly, that's why the 14060 goes with me when I fell like the casual look although I have been know to wear the daydate with a pair of shorts and a t-shirt from time to time.

I don’t understand how someone can say, men wear this size, women wear this size. As pointed out by others, not only is it subjective, but also depends on how large your wrist is and how you’re built.

Separately, I think that saying women wear 40+ these days so men should be fine, is weak.

Women wear watches differently. For example, a woman with skinny wrists could rock an SD43 by wearing it loose like an accessory and it will look fine.

A man with a larger wrist than the woman might not, as generally men wear watches ‘fitted’ and not loose like a bangle.

It’s an entirely different look.

You are correct.......the 118206 might grab your attention. I’m really liking mine.

All sizes are good with me. I find if I wear Panerai and now my Deepsea, it takes some time to get used to the size of my Pepsi GMT because it feels small.

Then if I’m wearing my 1954 36mm omega dress watch for a weekend and then follow with my GMT or speedy, they feel chunky again.

It amazing what you get used to on your wrist. If it looks of feels small to you then go bigger. Or if you can’t get used to something large then go smaller or even vintage.

Well said. I flip from 32 to 40. Then back to 36. Then 34. Then...whatever! Leather band, SS, TT then gold. I wouldn’t get caught up on size.

Definite personal preference. I so badly want to like classicaly sized watches, but I'm zero for five on watches smaller than 40mm. I had a vintage Omega DeVille at 35mm. It was so cool in the hand, but on the wrist it was soooooo small. Every time I pick up anything south of 40 I quickly end up not wearing it. Really my goldie locks zone is 42mm.

As others have said, if you like it, go for it! But for me it's too small. Good luck.

For years the 36mm was the mens and the 26 and 28mm was for women. Then along came the style were people were rockin the big watches. The women started buying the 36mm as the small ones are pretty much dead, very 1980's. So a few years ago the 41mm was introduced for men. Still some women like the 41mm . My wife rocks the 41. 36 is still cool for guys if you want that classic rolex style.

I’m quoting myself since I can’t edit.

A wide size range is now popular. The SD43 is flying off the shelves at the AD. Plenty of 41mm day dates selling. Still the vintage market is also hot and retro smaller styles are hot as well.

All sizes are popular! They are all good. Just get what fits your style and comfort needs. Enjoy the journey.

I dunno.....

I'm 6'2" 195lbs with about a 7 inch wrist. Doesn't look too small to me, in fact I get more positive comments on this watch than most others. No one has accused me of being dainty.

And I also have a 45mm watch too so it isn't like I have a defined preference.
