I must be in the Matrix.......

I have read countless threads in my time here about no one noticing or saying anything about the watches we wear. From reading those posts the general consensus is that no one cares or says anything about them.

Well I must be the anomaly.

I got my first comment going through a Tim Hortons drive thru about a year ago. The guy working the window makes a comment to me. Everytime I go to the location he says " Hey its Rlex guy". I did nothing out of the normal that paying for my items. I didn't flash it I just reached out to pay.

My company has 2 buildings. I used to work at the other building and rarely go over there anymore. I was there just before Christmas and I had 2 staff say nice watch. They asked to see it up close and I obliged.

A few weeks ago I was at an NHL hockey game and ran into some guys I know in my business. They were entertaining a client. the client says " that's a nice looking watch". that turned into a short conversation about watches.

Just over this past weekend I was out shoe shopping and trying on a pair of shoes. The young guy is talking to me about shoes. As I go to try on a pair he says. "hey that s a nice looking watch. Is that a Rolex? I replied yes it is. He asks to look at it and makes a few comments on it.

That's 4 comments towards me in the past year and a bit and 3 in the last 2 months. I assure you I am doing nothing out of the ordinary to flash the watch or make it obvious. I am just a blue collar worker (chef) and just going on about my day.

Oh no. I'd recommend you move to a remote cabin somewhere ASAP to save yourself from the anxiety and sheer terror of having peasants comment on your timepiece.

Maybe you are the anomaly...
In 8 or so years of wearing my sub I can recall two comments (other than friends who are also into watches).
One at home depot by the young kid/guy checking me out and one while waiting for my screen to get fixed at Apple...

It happens to me relatively often.

More often with my cars.

And I enjoy it very much.

I've been wearing decent watches since high school and I've always got comments. Since I started wearing Rolex, I get non stop comments. Its the other less known high end watches that people don't usually comment on. I see them looking at mine all the time but if they don't recognize it as a Rolex, most don't say anything. And when they do, its usually, "Hey is that a Rolex?" Sometimes I just answer yes because if you say no and tell them what it is, they always look so disappointed LOL. In my experience, most people know Rolex or don't know anything...

I've gotten a few comments on my watches in the past. Out of curiousity, what are you wearing when you get comments?

I was wearing my Milgauss for the Tim Hortons and the work one, and my YM for the other 2 interactions.

In 3 years of wearing the only person who has commented is my son's 18 year old friend who informed me my Seadweller 16660 was fake because it didn't have the cyclops.

I can honestly say I’ve maybe had one or two comments about what watch I’m wearing in 25+ years of Rolex ownership.

In one case it was pleasant and in the other it wigged me out

On another watch forum one of the moderators worked at Tim Hortons. May it was him.

I don’t get comments about my watches.

However, I have had multiple occasions in many different places when I am on vacation where people just come up to me and ask within a short period of time what I do for a living.

Just as a background, I am not much of a talker and did not engage these people. I travel with wife and kids and my family behave just like any normal tourists fwiw. Nothing from us screams out of the ordinary as far as I can tell.
