In a pinch, I lick the crystal and wipe it dry with my tie.

Maybe if bracelets were made from some super soft metal. There's a reason it's a tool found on virtually every watchmaker's bench.

Firstly for my DD I don’t swim, exercise or sleep with my watch on. Every night after my shower I take the damp towel and wipe off every surface of my watch. I then use a spear pointed qtip to clean in between links etc. If I get some gunk on the watch I would use a small amount of cheap hair shampoo and some warm water. for my GMT I will swim with the watch but not exercise or sleep. Same thing with the towel. But after a day of swimming and suntanning with it on, I will do the shampoo and water thing. My GMT is 10 years old and people continually ask me if it’s brand new or how do I keep my watch so shiny.

About once a week I wear it in the shower and use a soft toothbrush.

Once a month regular soap and soft tooth brush under running water

Wrist Clean!....this stuff is so cheap and a bottle lasts a long time. Spray it on an let it set for a minute, rinse it off and the watch looks brand new. They also sell microfiber cloths that are fantastic as well.

I am another fan of Wrist Clean. I bought the Enthusiast's kit and that does a brilliant job (including with straps). The only problem being located in the UK is that you have to ship it over from the US which costs 24 dollars, so order a large stash at a time! (If anyone has found an UK distributor of Wrist Clean products let me know!).

I also heard that toothbrushes can be too abrasive and that a jewelers brush is a better choice but not sure if this is true.
I use organic Castile soap. However when I’m on vacation and in the salt water, what ever the hotel has lol.

Dear readers,

Can I clean the DJ41 with warm water and dish soap?
The reason I’m asking this is because the DJ41 isn’t build like a SM or YM.

Thanks for any advice.

Yes. DJ is plenty water resistant.

Most oyster cased Rolexes are robustly water proof. Older models need to be checked for pressure tolerance periodically!!! Also as watches get older repair can become more pricey so make certain the risk taken is worth it..

1. Pull out shirt tail'l.

2. Lick watch dial.

3. Wipe watch with shirt tail.

4. Tuck shirt back in.

Sometimes I actually follow the manufacturer's instructions:

I'm so glad I read this thread because I thought I made a mistake about letting my local AD clean my watch. I took my Fat lady in for a bezel spring replacement and I left it there for that and I got a call from the service department saying they need to do a full service and polish the watch. Well I think I made it to them before the receiver hit the floor.

I was like WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY. Polish my watch! So the person at the desk said simmer down Pot Roast!(lol) And told me that all watches are polished when serviced. I was like just change the Bezel spring. But they convinced me to do a service/lubrication and a cleaning to which I agreed to. Then I read some posts on this pelican's website RPR where he's carrying on about patina and crud on the cases is very important. So I naturally started to think I screwed up by actually cleaning the watch.

My thinking about letting them clean the watch is that I live in a salt water environment and the watch is not 904 SS so I didn't want any pitting or corrosion to set in. So now I'm glad I did have it cleaned but not polished.

By the way you'd be surprised at how many so called expert watch repair places I took the watch to asking if the Bezel should be unidirectional or bidirectional. All of them said unidirectional! One guy who is supposedly a very high end repair center that does appraisals said my bezel was a Submariner bezel cause it was unidirectional. I even had one of my friends who is personal friends with one of the biggest watch sellers in the country email the owner and the answer we got back was that if it is bidirectional it's broken.

It wasn't till I took it to the service center about a half hour from my house that they knew right away it was a broken bezel spring. I don't give them any demerits for wanting to polish since I now know this SOP for Rolex.

Note to self, check here first then proceed,

I've had my Rolex about two weeks and decided to wash it (I don't shower with it since I take it off at night). OMG, they really get dirty! It looked way better after. I was kind of surprised.
