Search, there are plenty of posting from forums members with the M and not the 3186 that is why you can find "The Wiggle Test" instructions on the board..
I all M were 3186 there would be no need for the wiggle test. Yes, I know I said I was done BUT I am answering a legit ?

I guess you had one more in you. I am laughing with you Jeremy, not at you, very funny.
That's twice today you made me laugh.

I believe you are mistaken, it is my understanding that all M's do have the 3186, it is the Z's that are hit & miss.

This is true, that is why my late Z came with the new GMT booklet highlighting the new hairspring. During this time frame Rolex was apparently grabbing movements off the shelf and putting them into the GMT II's. Some got the 3185, some got the 3186, that is why I make the point of taking the 3186 out of a Explorer II and putting it in my late Z, no one would know and no one should care, it does not add value.

Finally someone said it, 3186 v 3185, stick vs non-stick, it doesn't mean a thing unless the buyer places value on that. And the value is all based on the buyer's perception of these characteristics, not you or me. If they want to pay more for it, great, if not good for them.
As for explorers not receiving any hype with 3186, it's simple. Explorers with 3186 are still in production while GMTs with 3186 aluminum bezel are discontinued.

Easy question to answer. Show me a GMT II 'M' with a 3185 movement. I checked the 'wiggle test' with my 'M' GMT II against my GMT IIc TT and it looked the same so I presumed it was a 3186. I took the back off and fitted a clear case bask and yes it was a 3186. Some members have appeared confused when evaluating the 'wiggle test' in the absence of a comparison. I'm done with this thread - I'm done with this thread. Sorry - double post. Ha - an 'M' with a 3186 - only real way to tell if it's even a Rolex movement.

Buying any 16710 at a premium is hype pricing, regardless of what movement or dial it has.
If history is any indication, then a few years down the road prices will stabilize and it is very unlikely that the 3186 (which is a 3185 with a different main mounting plate and a couple of moved gears) will make any difference at all. Right now slick sellers are making a few extra bucks....it won't last long..

Regardless of what series and for how much, after reading this entire thread, I am just happy to pay a little over $5k for my M3186 six months ago ... BNIB from an AD with no sale tax.

People don't care because he/she got a 3185 and don't want to admit it's the second last/best OR they are not going to sell it and will just enjoy the watch. |

Just enjoying the watch, now that's a novel idea. I wish people would just buy the watch they liked the most and not the one they though might be worth something 50 years down the road. Seriously, sometimes it seems like people are looking for investment advice, and all people ever say is watches are horrible investments, yet people keep thinking they are buying the next Comex models.

Neither just a Cal 3135 but all of the mens Rolex watches movements except for the chronographs. Are all just basically clones of the 3135 with or without added complications.

I don't think there are any M serial GMT-IIs with the 3185. We first started discussing the wiggle test here in late 2007, before Rolex released its first M. It was first posted and discussed on another forum prior to that.

Why is there always one person that comes onto a thread to throw in an inciting comment? But since you made it an issue he is asking $5700 for a NIB “M” Series Coke GMT with all stickers in tact, however the card is filled in so I would call this LNIB and don’t think it’s that great of a deal considering I can get ones from - http://www.demesy.com/p/50951.html or http://www.demesy.com/p/51561.html
