What would you do?
Hey Guys,
I have an opportunity to purchase a white Daytona 116500LN new from AD. But there's a caveat to this purchase. I need to buy a piece of jewelry with the watch for $3K. I don't mind to purchase a necklace for my wife for $3k. But before I do this I decide to post it on TRF and see what other people think. Thanks in advise for your honest reply. |

Does you wife want a 3K necklace?
I would not do this, sounds like blackmail to me.

do you like the daytona? do you want it? if you do this is a no brainer, 3k extra vs the 10-12k more it costs on the grey market or having to bundle it with a full PM piece at ADs....

its less than the secondary market premium, and you could use the jewelry for your wife. I would in that situation.
A bundle is only a bad deal if you are getting something you dont want or need. Otherwise its leverage. You can use it or the AD can use it. Plenty of people leverage a DD purchase to get a SS hot watch at the same time

Don't do it.
Why should you allow an AD to shake you down, just so you can buy a watch. I can't believe that people fall for this sort of crap. It's unconscionable.

Sorry not much help here, just a rant. AD tactics such as these are so tackie. I wouldn't do it personally if it were me. I can't wait until this shortage turns back around so that we can stick it to AD's that pull this crap.

Just doesn't sit well with me ...AD may as well ask for $ 2k cash over the Daytona price
Wonder how Rolex corporate would feel about this ?? |

these guys will do the same thing to someone 5 minutes after you decline and whats the point? if you wanted this watch you just screwed yourself to go play more (and worse) games at other ADs instead of purchasing it for a slight premium in the form of a gift for someone

I would do it, that way you have something nice to give the little lady and she wont mind you adding the Daytona to your collection as she has been included in the splurge.

Then the secondary dealers repeat the process of becoming the AD's best customers and when it turns around again and you come back to the AD they stick it to you again. Its a cycle. And you still are going to want watches. IMO you either stick to AD's or stick to secondary dealers. This back and forth is the source of a lot of the frustration on the forum. No AD is going to bend over for customers who are only there because their secondary dealers now ask for a huge premium. They know the game

I agree it's not a right practice for the AD to make you purchase a piece of jewelry for $3k more however, if you have been waiting on the list for a while and can afford the $3k extra, I would go for it (in addition to making your wife happy).
The Dayonta is commanding more than that on the secondary market. If it were me, I definitely would jump at that without a doubt and enjoy the watch (you never know if you pass, you might not get this chance again). Good luck with your decision!!

3k is a steal. Lots of people spend 30k and still waiting.

I hope that by know you would have already bought that watch! By all means, a 3k jewelry piece is something you MUST buy for your wife in order for her to be as happy as you are that you have bought your desired watch. So it will be a win win combo!

Ridiculous in my opinion that you are being asked to do that.

What if you buy a certified diamond, then sell the diamond later?
That way you won’t lose as much as 3k |

Sounds fishy but at least you will get extra jewelry and you will not pay a premium to some seller and only get a watch...
It's up to you to decide if you want to go this route.

To add. I don't blame ADs. After all they have a businesses to run. Having hot product as the leverage to sell other slow moving products is a common practice in all type of industries. |

My two cents*: This is the antithesis of service. That AD should be reported. If it was offered to me, I'd scoff. My self-respect is worth more than any watch.
* Truth be told, the Daytona is not my cup of tea. |

I wouldnt mind, extra 3k gets a gift for your wife + ability to buy your limited watch at retail.
also whats stopping your from selling the jewelry if its that serious? lmao |

I agree with several members; this sounds like an unethical practice. If you need the jewelry then there is no problem, for myself, there is no watch worth this cost.

I do understand those who feel this is unconscionable and respect your points.
For the OP, a couple of thoughts. If you were going to buy a piece of jewelry in that price range later this year, then in a sense you are only changing the timing of it. And if you were planning on doing more deals with this AD, then you are starting a relationship. But if this type of behavior outrages you, and you’ll never buy from that AD in the future then don’t get mad - do the deal. Then document everything and send it to Rolex USA as extortionary behavior. You get the Daytona, the wife gets the jewelry and you take an active role in curtailing that AD in the future.
