Newbie needing advice
Hi all.
The time has finally arrived where I’m in a position to invest in a nice Rolex timepiece. I really like the James Cameron Deapsea D-Sub and also the sea dweller! I’ve also seen a very nice panda face Daytona from 2018, virtually new but without stickers. My question is, from an enjoyment and also an appreciating investment point of view, which would you choose??? Thanks |

I agree with Padi, buy the watch you want to wear and if it appreciates then great. There are exponentially better investments than watches. |

welcome.
Truthfully the prices you are going to have to pay to get those watches, you will then lose money when you sell. Its not like you can walk into an AD and pay retail. My recommendation is decide on what you like first, go to an AD and try to get on a list. It won't be easy and dont ask for more than one hot watch at a time.

Have you looked at pricing? I suspect that will steer you one way or the other. But still, buy the one you like. If you're looking at it as an investment, buying watches is not the right place.

Sometimes when people say “invest” they mean “buy”.
Though reading the last part I guess not in this case! Last edited by atn_uk; 6 March 2019 at 07:59 PM.. Reason: Typo |

44mm JC DSSD
43mm SD43 40mm Daytona 116500C From what I understand there are many who occasionally wear there JC DSSD but find them too unwieldy to wear every day. For me the SD43 is in the same category. The Daytona is a much smaller watch and for some it is too small. I'd make certain to try them all on before buying. The Daytona is the perfect size for me!!! |

The Sea Dweller is great, though also quite large. The panda faced Daytona is wonderful, and I’d like one! Of the three I would personally go for the Daytona if you are prepared to pay the price - bear in mind I own and love the Sea Dweller. Assuming you are buying from the grey market, I would not assume too much price appreciation from the price you currently would have to pay for any of the three. If you can get for list, that is a different question. |

I believe that any of the watches that you have mentioned will be purchased at the high end of the Grey Market. You will not make any money and if you hold the watches for any amount of time you may actually lose a significant amount if you sell or trade. I would go try them all on and see if you can actually pull off the DSSD. Find a watch that fits you and you want to wear day to day and get your best price. Buy the watch, wear it, enjoy it and move on.

If you want an appreciating investment you should probably go vintage. Supply is limited and they’re not being made.

Go into buying a watch u like. Plan on losing 20%-30% after enjoying...
If it goes up be happy but dont plan on it |
