Gone in less than 2 seconds

https://www.yahoo.com/news/2-million...162400798.html

In terms of acceleration, the Pininfarina Battista has been described as the fastest street-legal car, hitting 62 mph (100 kmh) in less than two seconds.

That's quick.

I'll be driving a manual transmission until my left leg gives out. Acceleration numbers be damned.

Oh that's easy. Same reason why I need a precious metal chronograph stopwatch with incredibly expensive jewels called a Daytona RBOW to time lap sessions to get milk and pancake mix, because you can afford it, duh.
And because it's baller af to say the name of your car is a Pininfarina while your buddy is so lame saying, my 911.

I was talking about the performance rather than the actual car, Rashid, and from my own point of view as someone who doesn't see the point in having something you can't use.
I have no problem at all with the cost of the toy - if you can afford it go for it.
I love the Rainbow Daytona (without the diamonds on the lugs please) and would have one if I could afford it.
I'm also a car-nut but past a certain point the performance is irrelevant to me.

Yep. That’s about right.

Happen to agree with this too.

I’m at a point where I’m beginning to

Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing it. And I’d love to have one. But damn, what can actually be done with it?

And even if you have the means, are you really opening that puppy up? Are you tracking it? When does it get to be “too much”?

I suppose never. Love the engineering and the drive to always get better. Can’t imagine how much money you must need to have one of those.

I can only imagine some kind of royalty driving through the desert in the Middle East.

I like it. Way better than a Model S. As much performance as you could ever want for a mere $2.2MM (only twice what a PP perpetual calendar minute repeater costs). It's easy to rationalize in context of where our hobby can take us.

I think a lot of these will end up in Russia, with a few showing up in California.

Does anyone else hate the term "Hypercar?"

This childish need to give everything a title that describes how awesome it is really grates me. What will they call the car that is faster? It's almost as bad as comic book names for watches.

Ok, rant over. I'll get back to yelling at the neighbourhood kids on my lawn.

I understood your point from the beginning but it's the same answer. We stopped needing these performance numbers in the 1970s. No one needs over three hundred hp in the streets. These cars are meant for people who will track them like the McLaren P1 but my statement was the reality of where most will end up, in the hands of buyers who can simply afford them. My F80's 450hp scares me enough and I have to adjust my braking distances because my ceramic brakes stop much sooner than mini vans and F150 trucks.
1900 hp, I can't even...just thinking of the tire technology and and their cost is in outer space.

These types of cars are as much a statement to the owners as a SABR Submariner or even a Deepsea. No one is going diving to 1000ft or lapping the 'ring in sub seven seconds. But if you're a true well connected car enthusiast with mucho money, you just have to have one of these.

For this crowd they buy these the way we buy watches...except even more extreme, they likely never even visit the show room. Someone from your office makes some calls, maybe you come to a private vip purchase session and the car shows up, then you drive it at 25mph through the roads of Monaco or Rodeo Drive.
If you're truly passionate you'll garage it to enjoy occasionally otherwise keep it a few years, make some money selling it for the higher appreciated market value and get the next one. Jay Leno will get one and another 1% will ever personally get it past 150mph or threshold brake from 100mph into an apex.
Just rinse and repeat...all the while I'm here debating ceramic bezels and date vs no date.

Oh, the irony! Someone who likely made their millions or billions on oil driving a car that doesn't use it.

Meh. A top fuel dragster will do 0-100mph in less than one.

Very cool, no doubt! Acceleration time aside, it's just not the same to me without the sound of a nice engine. A thrill nonetheless, but I'm very old fashioned when it comes to cars.
