Submariner SS
Just was wondering how difficult it is to obtain a new SS Submariner at AD.
I have called around and seems very difficult to find in both date and non date. |

Seem like pre owned is the option of you can’t wait for the ADs to catch up.

Two months. Call/visit at least 10 ADs closest to you.

They get calls all day, every day. Your best bet is to visit them in person, build a relationship and get you name on the list. Then you can call and follow up.

It is. However the 16610 can be had in great condition at reasonable prices. For my money, a far more attractive option anyway. No blingy bezel or bloated case resulting in a more classic design. The bracelet has about the same ability to adjust and is just as strong.

Depends on the AD and your luck in timing. My AD is a chain and I was originally shooting for a Sub for my first Rolex. When I asked I was told no subs and could be 6, 8, 12+ month wait. I decided on getting an Exp1 and really do love it (would of been my second purchase anyway), but the sub was still on the back of my mind. Went back to the AD asked about a Sub, this time their tune was different told me they'd try their best to get it within a month and have been texting me updates. I feel like you have to get yourself in the door first before they'll source you a hard to find model.
Otherwise it's just being at the right place at the right time. They may of gotten one in for someone, they passed, and no one else currently on the list. In the case it goes and gone later that day. Good luck! |

Friend of mine (first time customer) has been waiting about 4 months with no end in sight.
You'll most likely need to purchase something else first to get offered one in the current climate, unless you just get lucky and wander in the store on the right day.

I wanted a Submariner last July. I did some reading here and saw the thing about building a "relationship". So I went in expecting to not get one immediately, but also made my peace with purchasing a non sub first. Since July 2018 at the same AD, I've purchased a Milgauss, a DJ 41, and purchased diamond earrings for my mom during Christmas and still get shrugged at when I ask about a submariner. I've even gone in to poke around and get a watch sized. Save yourself the time and money, and buy it from a grey, as I finally did here on the forums, if all you want is a Sub. I can't imagine going in more often than that, or purchasing more stuff that I don't want, just to get a Submariner. |

In comparing the OP to the SS Sub no date - from the Rolex website - it looks as if the sub is not too different than its cheaper cousin. the main differences are the triplock crown, the bezel, and the clasp, (and the 300m WR). other than that i don't see a justification for the same movement and same internals.
