Hi All,

My wife's been wearing a modern 36mm ref 116234 Datejust and the clasp is super tight to open and close. It's especially noticeable on closing because she actually has to reach a finger around to the ender side just so she doesn't hurt her wrist with the force needed to close it.

Any advice on how to loosen the clasp closure force somehow?

just a quick follow up -- she's been wearing it daily - taking it on/off multiple times per day - for around 6 months so far and it hasn't loosened.

I just purchased a datejust 41 that is having the same issue. The clasp is very stiff upon opening and closing. I'm wondering if it can be fixed or should I return the watch.

Mine does the same!

on the bright side, i'm going to accept it as a good thing in terms of extra precaution.

Spray the middle hinge with a lubricant of your choice, for example Gibbs. Worked for me and took about about 5 sec ;)

I have seen this on one Rolex with an oyster band before. A HOT water and soapy wash made it go away. My thoughts are there was some debris in the middle hinge between the two blades.

Try that, or a lubricant as another member suggested. If it does not mitigate the problem, return the watch for a new one.

I have a DJ41; never noticed any difficulty with the clasp.

My understanding is that the DJ clasp operates on lever actions; so to open you would lift the end of the short piece. To close you press on the long piece of the clasp right where the Rolex crown is at.
