Stolen watch by Fedex Outlet at California Gardena

Sad to report this but a watch that i bought from a seller that i know here was stolen. (This deal was done outside of TRF but i think it's good to alert the community with the watch serial number).
I had a good relationship with the seller. Had 4-5 deals which all went well.

Parcel was sealed before heading to Fedex Outlet located at Gardena, California.
My seller dropped off the watch and was told the system was down for the day so it couldn't be scanned it until later in the day.
Date : 1st May 2019 (Probably in the evening at 6.30pm, California time)

Checked the next day, no tracking or scan was made.
My seller popped over to Fedex to check with the staff and was told the system is still down and couldn't scan in multiple parcels but definitely it was going out today.
Final scanned Date : 2nd May 2019 (3.56pm, California time)

I received the parcel today, opened it up. To my horror, nothing but a stack of A4 papers.
Couldn't see any signs of tampering. Asked my seller if he put tape at the bottom of the fedex box he shipped it, he say he didn't.
But the fedex box that i received has 2 clear tape at the bottom.
So probably the fedex staff who had access to the parcel, opened it up, took the watch.
Place a stack of papers that weight about 2.5lbs and used the label that i have provided on it.

I have the serial number of the BLNR that was stolen (See picture)
If anyone come across this full set (less the white tag), please report to the authorities. It's a stolen watch.

My seller is on his way to lodge a case with fedex and the police

Serial : 4P381931

I would think that if the police and fedex really wanted to, this could be solved quickly. Packages are meticulously tracked and fedex has access to work schedules. It’s just a matter of having fedex put forth the effort.

Good luck!

Why in the world would anyone hand over a Rolex to FedEx when their system was down and they couldn't scan anything?

Did he double box? Usually with parcel pro insurance, they require an "inner" sealed box in addition to the FedEx or other box. I think this makes sure that when you try to open the box, all you see is another sealed box.

Another thing - usually as part of customs declaration to Singapore (I've shipped a few) you need to have the invoice with value and description of goods. If it identified it as a watch then yeah makes it easier for an employee to know what it is... did your seller list it as a rolex? If so...dumb move =(

Would report immediately - the FedEx centers usually have CCTVs (unless it was those mom and pop franchisees). I always ship my parcels from a FedEX ship and pack center fully sealed and I am quite popular there as a "Auto parts" person.

I’m hoping someone learned a lesson. I agree with the others. File a police report and send it to FedEx. Let them bring the heat on that location.

Yeap. That's was a sloppy mistake by my seller.
Usually I require a scanned in receipt from fedex for proof of scan

Nope. It was listed as used precision instrument
Yeap I have reported to local fedex and my seller is working with me to report it to the Californian police and fedex..
Very likely to be a fedex ship centre.

But I don't have high hopes for the funds or watch ever to be found.
Waiting for my local fedex to get back to me.

Your seller isn't going to take responsibility for handing the package over to a random FedEx employee with no documentation and refund you?

Can’t track what was never checked-in.

Based on the narrative, sounds like either the seller has gone bad and never shipped, or a FEDEX worker never scanned it and stole it.

OP - this will be an interesting case and hope you don’t get scammed. Please keep us updated as to what went wrong.

Don't all FedEx ship centers have cameras throughout to track their employees?

This is a tough one to call. The package was delivered and based on FedEx they’re done.

I would never leave a package at fedex or ups unless they scan it in their system at the spot.

Good luck.

Buyer. Did you video tape or record yourself opening it. I do it all the time because i hear horror stories about empty boxes like your case. Same to seller did he videotape packaging it? You can watch the video and make sure the box is the same.

Didn’t you have an issue in the past in wiring someone money and he never sent you the watch?

Yep, but that one had a discrepancy with the weight. This one had the same weight from point A to point B. I can see FedEx drawing a no fault conclusion unless they found evidence of tampering.

There are bunch of newbies out there who think buying/selling is easy money...but the true reality it can be stressful when things go wrong...and it does...we just don't hear all the stories online.

I videotape EVERYTHING I buy online from private party....as a seller and buyer for my own protection.

Bought a $2,000 headphone - video tape when it arrived to make sure it's not an empty box or damage good.
Sold the $2,000 headphone - video tape when I packaged to make sure buyer doesn't make some mysterious claim about it.

It is simple to do with two items - your phone camera and a $10 tripod

I never understood the video taping? Couldn't someone just claim it to be edited, does it really prove anything? I'd like to hear from someone, who video taped the unboxing and boxing, and actually had to use it as part of evidence for a claim and it worked in their favor.

As someone who is soon selling a Rolex via a TRF and shipping through UPS or Fedex, what’s the best way of going about doing so discretely? I don’t like the idea of walking in with a Rolex box and walking out knowing every single employee knows what’s in the box. I also don’t like the idea of dropping it off in the mailbox for the FedEx man to come pick it up in the morning or whatever way that works. I don’t know how to get ParcelPro, it seems like a subscription thing but I’m not a watch dealer or anything. It wouldn’t make sense for me to get that. Any tips would be appreciated.

Why, oh why, leave an unscanned package in the possession of FedEX... it can't even ship until its been scanned anyway and insurance doesn't work until its scanned so that's literally the most careless thing that can be done... why not drive over to the next Fedex which is 10 minutes away (in Hawthorne) or the LAX Airport FedEX which is 15 minutes away and get it scanned then (it's even open an extra hour past the normal cutoff)... I don't leave Fedex without a scan and paper receipt in hand... no way he is getting reimbursed here and I doubt Fedex even bothers investigating this... everything will check out in their system if the switch was made prior to the scan... if there is an employee who he deals with that knows he ships high valued items, I would start with questioning him about it...

Maybe start a separate thread for that topic. Not cool to hijack.
