There were about 0 people buying Rolex before the 90s or even 00s. This puts a hard limit on the amount of vintage watches over here. There's no real vintage market.

100% false. There were a ton of people in SH and GZ buying rolex in the 80s and 90s.

Plenty of vintage in China, but they aren't cheap. There is a very high demand for 5513 subs.

Ok, but we're comparing to the west. Are you telling me that SH and GZ had collectors in equal numbers to equal population cities of the west? I'll answer that for you: no.

I would hazard a guess that China is a prime factor in the shortage of Rolex models in the west. Before China exploded as a major consumer of luxury goods Rolex could meet demand with their current production numbers. Now they have to expand production to meet this new demand and Rolex, like all prudent companies, doesn't just ramp up production overnight. Protecting the brand means ensuring quality remains high.

Omega boutiques now have signs all over saying "Union Pay Accepted." That's a major credit card company in China. It's like Visa or AMEX in the west. Omega knows where their bread is buttered. I assume Rolex knows this as well.

Ture and agreed, as i known there was a vintage watch street in GZ since early 80s, but disappeared coz city rebuild program at 00s.

No offense taken
Also, I'm not sure I understand your second sentence on account of the grammar. Are you saying I didn't take into account the large population of China?

My response assuming that's what you mean is: yes China has a huge population. We're talking about the 80s though. Its one thing to say that there are people buying Rolexes in GZ, SH, even BJ - yes of course there are. It's another thing to say that the percentages of people in those cities with collections came close to the percentages in Paris, New York, London. There's no way to think that the amount of Rolexes purchased in China during that time period is comparable to the west. This is all not even mentioning the 50s 60s and 70s.

Are we talking Hong Kong or China? Because Hong Kongers certainly buy used in Hong Kong. Mainlanders prefer new but I’m sure they buy used also

sorry abt the grammer, i just wanna say counting proportional in China is unfair. but there is a large number of vintage watch lovers/buyers in mainland indeed.
