Take it to an AD ... they'll tell you if ti's fake or not. Or open up the back and take a pic and post it, we will help you from there.

First thing is that the LEC is not always at 6, its also not that easy to see unless you have the watch at the right angle.

Also where did you get the watch from, if it was from an AD or other reputable dealer you will be fine

If you can't visually tell whether it's a fake sub or not, bring it an AD. Unless you really know what you're doing, I would not even think about opening the case back.

There are a number of ways to spot a fake Sub.. However, you should probably have looked into those tells before you bought one......

The etched crystal is very difficult to see.. It's not supposed to be apparent, however, if the Sub is authentic and you bought from a reputable seller, take your time, adjust light across the crystal, get a magnifier, and you can likely find it..

Do you have reason to suspect that your Sub is not authentic.. ???

You can only see the LEC in the right light at the right angle - magnification is always helpful too

Since it's a Sub, it should only be at the 6 o'clock because of the cyclops.

I cannot see mine without a 10X loupe.

You can also look up a few You Tube vids on the subject. One that I remember compared a genuine, good, and cheap Sub and showed differences of each. I thought it was interesting.

Good luck, Ji

Ive had my SD for one year and I didn't even realize that it had the LEC until Monday! I was having lunch on a patio with my friends and the sun hit it the right way and there it was, visible as can be. Cant believe it took that long.

The fact that you bought it at an AD is probably the best indication that it's real, but just so you know, fakes can have the LEC also...it's not exactly perfect, but there are examples (on-line) that look pretty close.

My intent isn't to get into taking about fakes, but just so you're aware that by itself, the LEC is not an indication of a genuine watch.

Yes it would be ridiculous, and the easiest way for an AD to lose the right to be an AD. A new rolex from an AD is a new rolex, not anything else. Sleep easy.

Well one of the main points on spotting many fakes is the fact that you can see the LEC quite easy.

Its easier to see if you point a flashlight at an angle. While not all Rolexex have the LEC on the 6, I'm quite certain its supposed to be. If its not, look closely and make sure its not a replacement. In that case, I think theres a small "s" in the middle of the crown

Isn't this a bit misleading? If one bought an older sub, it would not have the etching. This is a rather recent phenomenon, isn't it?

Honestly I'm not exactly sure. I know they've been doing it for many years. A friend of mine has a submariner and he showed me the LEC and I know his watch is at least 10 yrs old, probably closer to 20.

As others mentioned AD can easily tell, serial check would clear most checks.

My one Sub is circa 2002 and I tried for about 20 minutes to find it. Then I broke out a 3800 lumen flashlight and bingo, clear as day with a simple magnifying glass.
