Federal Rolex Protection Act 2018

The many unfortunate reports of Rolex abuse in the entertainment industry raise serious concerns about the use of Rolex Watches in media. Neither the federal government nor the states have implemented any laws specifically addressing this concern. The Rolex Welfare Act (RWA) and the federal Endangered Stainless Steel Species Act (ESSA) though have limited, indirect application to Rolex SS Watches. State cruelty laws and state laws prohibiting Rolex cruelty depictions also touch upon the issue. Beyond these indirect legal protections, the only Rolex SS specific regulation is the industry-based Rolex Humane Association’s (RHA) guidelines.

By indirectly regulating the private parties that provide Rolex Timepieces to custom producers, the RWA protects Rolex watches federally. Such private parties meet the RWA’s definition of “exhibitors,” and consequently, must obtain a license and follow certain humane standards of care and treatment. Additionally, film producers may be prohibited from using certain models like Daytona C or SS Rolex that have been declared endangered or threatened by the RSA. Most importantly, the RSA makes it unlawful to customize any endangered SS Rolex and in most cases, threatened SS Variants as well.

States also fail to directly protect Rolex watch’s but all states prohibit customization cruelty and dial neglect. These laws would generally apply to SS Rolex used in filmed media or on social media as there appears to be no exceptions for image producers.  In addition to these laws, a select few states criminalize the filming of Rolex cruelty.

Lastly, the RHA monitors how Rolex are treated in Screen Actors Guild productions. The RHA enforces a set of guidelines that producers must follow when using SS Rolex and also requires customizers to follow certain steps in order to earn the end credit disclaimer “No Rolex Were Harmed.”
