YVR Customs agent says “nice Kermit”

Leaving Vancouver heading back to Arizona my Customs guy says “Nice Kermit, how long have you had it”. I said “about 10 years”. He says “ great watch and great investment” I smiled said thanks and agreed with him.
visited Montechristo AD. They had none of the hard to get pieces, several datejusts, a WG blue Sub, YG black dial sub. I tried to see if a bundle on a 31mm ladies watch that a friend wanted would bring anything out of the back but the saleman (super nice guy BTW) said they had nothing and I asked multiple times even hinting I might consider the 116619 if he had something.

This reminds me of the old saying that when the taxi driver starts to give investment advice it’s time to get out.

Things have gotten pretty weird, it seems Rolex has moved to a new client. It probably has a lot to do with how good the economy is, but even if the economy tanks Rolex already moved on

Not true, only us sickos... been almost everywhere, never had one comment on any of the 7 Rolexes I have had in my 35 years of WISdom...The Customs agent is a closet WIS

Nice, Matt

I’d be interested to talk with that guy. Great position to see a bunch of cool watches and occasionally connect with someone about a watch. I agree with previous commenter- probably a closet WIS and he’s probably somewhere lurking on this forum. I would have enjoyed that brief interaction with him, even if he wears a Timex.

I’m pretty sure most of us have jobs here. Is it that unlikely one of us here works as a customs agent?

I've never had a comment in the airport but recently my 116234 got recognized at a very locals only brewery in Vancouver. The guy even asked if it was a DJ 36 or DJ 41. I own many more valuable and rare rolex's but in 15 years that simple 36 mm DJ on jubilee with a fluted bezel was the first one to get even a wink or a nod. Very cool story and I'm glad you weren't given a hard time. Wear it in good health.

Nice!

Just be glad the customs guy didn't strip search you to see if you were bringing back a few undeclared Rolexes

I never comfortable dealing with customs agents because they have so much discretion

I agree with the comments that the agent was a WIS, the words kermit flowed off his tongue with ease..... I wish I would have asked him if he was on TRF.

Oh, if he knows the lingo, I'm sure he's at some forum, if not here.

Hey, Mr. Customs Agent, speak up!

Same here,

I always feel like I’ve dogged a bullet passing through customs ... even though I’ve got nothing to hide

Same here, even though I’ve never had any trouble. Oddly enough, I catch hell at the Mexico border all the time.

I know customs agents are just normal people doing their job and could be serious WIS, but whenever I travel the less interaction I have with them the better. Just from the "crossing borders hassle" pov

Like a year and a half ago when my bar tender at a dive bar in Maui was giving me Crypto "investing" advice.

The last thing I want is customs agents who can ID a Rolex . That guy sounds super chill, but I could see some agents being pricks about something of that value on your wrist and questioning its origins.

My thoughts too!
If he thought you’d just bought it for xxxxx££££$$ on your trip?
