The biggest thing to watch out for (in my opinion) is a lack of power. In an effort to gain fuel efficiency, many models come with far too wimpy of an engine, at least for the weight of the vehicle. Look out for this especially if you're looking for an extended cab, full length model. And the only real solution is test driving. It's the best way to get a sense if the truck is going to give you what you want.
