Forget assaults and other violet crimes in the USA.

The United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners

Like the stigma or not, as an outsider, you have a very, very violent and scary country.
Yep. There are places you just don't go. My sleepy little town has almost no crime. But the major cities all have neighborhoods that are definitely "locals only." It's like that all over the world. And tourists are easy marks for thieves (and worse).

Ya gotta be smart when you travel. Just don't do anything that paints a bullseye on your back. Especially when you're traveling from a wealthy country to one that is far less wealthy.

OP: Get a G-Shock for the trip.

Nearly all of those murders occurred in a handful of cities that you’re better off not visiting anyway.

Certain areas of NY, Miami and East LA I can understand, but you feel safer in Mexico than the US? The statistics don’t support your comparison at all.... not even close.

It's true. Only the ignorant/stupid in my country would claim it's not. And those violent deaths don't include automobiles. We're a car centered society and many of the people on the roads are so important that they must tap away on their gadgets instead of driving/respecting other people's lives.

Jim Jeffries does a great bit poking fun of the dangers of America.
