15 years is about right. Do they have the little adjusting barrel on the sole?

I LOVE my Brompton. Built this baby from the ground up with the guys at Pasadena Cyclery. Rode it in the Rosarito - Ensenada ride two years back, I’ve been coast to coast with this bike in my trunk, enjoying all the little moments. I haven’t been able to ride in a while due to a dual hand injury last Krismas; but I am eager to hit the pedals again!

I appreciate your comments - I have been yearning to get back into it. I live in something of a rural area, so if I get creative I might be able to find some areas that have less traffic. That said, often the most dangerous rides are on country roads with no shoulders, traveled by pickups pulling large trailers. Any future rides will be very carefully considered!
I know what you mean after living close to the New Mexico/Colorado border for several years. I can’t tell you how many Big Gulp cups and McDonalds bags have been thrown at me on those rural roads.

The biggest concern for you will be the width of the tire. Most road bikes accept up to a 25c wide tire (shown as 700 x 25) on the tire. Some newer endurance frame bikes may be able to fit up to a 28c tire. The crucial fit is on the rear triangle. Too wide of a tire can abrade your chainstays.

Generally, the wider tires allow you to run a lower air pressure which results in a bit more comfortable ride. I have always run as wide as I can. There is a very, very minimal loss of speed or increase in resistance in going wider but a great increase in comfort.

Another concern is the tradeoff between suppleness (how smooth and compliant the ride of the tire feels) and durability (resists punctures and wear). I really like Continental GP 4000s for a nice midpoint between the two.

Have fun!

Shoot me a message if you ever find yourself down south for a ride.

Enjoy the winter.

Oh no...i'm not a gun nut but sometimes you just need a Sig Sauer .380 in a leg holster. I hope you stay safe on the road!

Thanks for the great explanation. Actually makes a lot more sense now. I will definitely let you know if I am ever in your area.

No worries from me.

My “oops” was actullay an edit after I initially posted a comment similar to yours - and not meant to comment on yours. I am also a member of a couple of other forums with different content and sometimes trip over myself.

Sorry for any confusion.

This is awesome! I'm waiting for my first Brompton to arrive later this week. I've never been into bikes but I look forward to taking the Brommie with me on trips or just leaving it in my trunk for spontaneous rides.

Hope you continue to have fun with your B.

Awesome!! I LOVE my Brompton. I rode in the Brompton World Championship qualifiers at Laguna Seca last year with my dad; he will also be going to London for the BWC next month! It’s a great bike and I keep it in my car at all times. I built a P6R with the basic Brooks saddle, which is still pretty light for all the stuff I’ve got....What setup are you going with?

Wow, didn't know they had qualifiers at Laguna Seca.. not that I'm ready for that though!

I just ordered a H6R -12% gearing in All Tempest Blue. Should be here early next week. It will come with the Brompton cat eye light kit, wide saddle, C bag and GP1 grips. I'll post pictures when I get it..

Last year I bought a black edition black lacquer but foolishly I sold it earlier this year.. at least I got my money back but I missed the bike so I ordered a new one.

I looked into the electric model but just too heavy and I need the exercise anyway..

Oh boy neither were we.... it was bruuuutal; but a lifetime opportunity I had to go for. I made 3 laps in FULL British commuter regalia down the F@*#N Andretti hairpin. It was glorious.
