I'm from New Orleans, grew-up in Houston, and have lived in Dallas for over 20 years. As others have said, not much nature to see in DFW and the summers are silly hot, but the economy is good and growing and the people are nice.
I've never lived in Austin, but there all the time (was there last week). The only issues I see is that housing prices are very high (compared to Houston & Dallas), the homeless population seems high, and the traffic is bad. But overall, it's a very cool/hip/art/music city. I worked and lived in NYC in 2000-2001 (wife and home stayed in Dallas). I think being from Texas made the shock of NYC cost of living that much worse. I had fun and learned a lot, but didn't see it being long term. I even thought about buying a place in Hoboken and making it perm, but just couldn't make the numbers work compared to Dallas. |
