Need Advice on Used Rolex
I located a used rolex for my wife, a SS oyster perpetual, no date, blue face, 2002 for $1500. It is in near new condition. I can tell that it's been worn, but it appears nearly new. The part I am uneasy about is, no box and no papers. The seller guarantees full authenticacy and is willing to meet me at a jewelry store of my choice for further authentication.
It seems odd to me that there is no box. I have no reason to believe it is stolen based on conversations with the seller, but I'm not sure how I would know for sure. I don't want to take a chance so my question is, any way i can search or determine whether it is stolen? I am attracted to this watch b/c it is perfect for my wife and is of a price point that works for me. Much more than this asking price, and i am out of the market for a rolex. This is my first post and I am a novice relative to rolex, so any advice would be appreciated. I do have a jeweler i know and trust, he is excellent, though not a rolex dealer. He sells used ones and knows the product well, just not an authorized svc sales store. thx |

Well in reality the papers mean very little after the warranty period of two years. The most important thing is getting a genuine watch, and that should be checked when you get it inspected have the back off if needed to be 100% sure. And when you get watch serviced infuture by RSC you will get service papers from Rolex they will be almost as good as original paper work. The box well its just a box nothing more nothing less, most ADs would have a stolen watch register.

The watch brand new AFTER discount can be bought for around $3000
$1500 hundred sounds like a good/correct price for a 6 year old watch. About the box You can buy A COMPLETE set outer and inner brand new Rolex box for 65.- I assume you want to present it for valentines, that's why the box is necessary.??? When you buy a preowned watch write down the name and address of the gentleman you are buying the watch from. When at your watchmakers for inspection, tell him to open the case and check the movement we want a Rolex movement than a "Christmas tree"...right..? Then ask the watchmaker to remove the bracelet and write two numbers down that are engraved in the case of the watch One at 12 which is the reference or model number either 76080, 76030 or 76094 and on the other side of the case, at 6 there is the serial number it should start either with the letter P or K, write that down as well. Date the paper and make the seller sign it. I hope I have helped.. |

The box and papers are good for the resale value; however if the AD gives it the ok, you have nothing to worry about.
Its nice to have the paper, but its over rated. It sounds like a great deal, dont let the paper be an issue if you like the watch. Good luck tom |

If you are that attracted to this watch, take it to your AD, have them pop the back open to check the movement and check the case as well. As TempoKing said, have them remove the bracelet to get the model & serial numbers. If this watch has changed ownerships in the last 5-6 years, chances are it has never been serviced as well. I would definitely take it to an RSC, have it serviced and get some identity and papers, so to speak, for the watch. The RSC charges $750.00 now, for a complete service.
Being a 2002 watch, it can also be a Y-series much like this one which was reported stolen in a tanning salon on December 16, 2005. Rolex Lady Oyster Perpetual Stainless Steel case, with Arabic Blue Dial. Model: 76080 Serial #: Y299810

I passed on this watch at this price. The price is ok, but the service will add another $400, so i'll be in it at $1900 for a simple entry level rolex. I like it, the condition is very nice and my AD said it was a very good watch but it isn't a bargain at $1900 (as noted, never serviced and is now 7 yrs old). I was rushing my decision b/c it looks good and is a nice price point, but not a good enough bargain to rush my decision. thx for the input.
